Climate Comfort Windscreen (retrofit)

Hi,

I have a crack on my windscreen and it needs to be replaced. Currently I have the KAFAS/HUD windscreen 51317357266 installed but I was wondering if there would be any issues with replacing it with 51317357271 instead, which is the KAFAS/HUD/IR Climate Comfort Windscreen.

Dealer is claiming this is "incompatible" and that it may affect the driver assist features of the vehicle. I don't see how this could be the case as the 740i/750i can be optioned outside of the US with this and is as far as I know standard on the US M760i and the B7.

Any thoughts?

What does the climate comfort screen do? Just reflect the sun to stop the car heating up as much?

Just wondering as my car has it but never knew what the benefit was.

Yes, it reflects more IR radiation so in theory should keep the car cooler.

My dealer is now saying that the rain sensor might not work with the new glass. I think this is BS as the sensor has to be reprogrammed anyway and should read the refractive index of the glass, but wanted to be 100% sure before moving forward as if there are any issues I'm sure they'll disclaim all responsibility.

The difference in appearance is that the climatic glass when looking from outside at the car, it is slightly blue

Is the dealer perhaps confusing HUD windshield with non HUD? They are in fact different. The question is whether the climatic glass is also HUD compatible. I can't tell from the parts pages posted above.

I would run those part nbrs (along with my VIN) using one of the BMW online part database sites...because they will list supplemental information along with the part nbrs etc. (Realoem.com or Bimmercat.com)

Then look for the BMW 11 digit part number that says YES for the options your car has. For example, Climate Comfort option code is S358A and the HUD option code is S610A. So again, you want to select the part number for #1 (windshield) that says YES for those option codes plus any other options you have. It the site says NO for an option you have...then you DO NOT want to use that windshield.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to report back that I was able to convince my dealer to do this even though they were initially skeptical. Just got my car back and everything works (rain light sensor, KAFAS, HUD, etc.)!

My previous windshield was tinted with 3M Crystalline 90 and this is at least as good in terms of heat resistance but without the visible haze you get with a tinted windscreen in direct sunlight.

Chiming in on this thread to ask (if you're willing to answer) what you paid for this? Have just discovered a crack that appeared out of nowhere on my M760's windshield and trying to get a handle on what I should expect the dealer to bend me over for.
