Arrow Porsche Museum - Projekt Geheim! (Top Secret Test Cars!!)

Name: IMG_4464.jpg
Views: 10840
Size: 76.0 KB

First off, my sincerest apologies... about a year and half ago I went to this really cool display of secret test cars - that Porsche AG developed. Some projects never saw the light of day. Others went into production. What was truly fascinating was how long some of the "test cars" were tested without anyone discovering what they were. The original Boxster mules come to mind disguised at 964(911's).

I had been meaning to upload these pics... seems like I took then just a few months ago... but Life just got in the way. The other day I was talking to a friend about some of the cool test cars I saw at the P-Museum back then. And now I found the time to MAKE this photo thread.

Projekt Geheim(!) means Secret Project. I consider myself a Porschephile and very knowledgeable about the various Porsche models. But I was shocked to see some of these prototypes that I had never heard or see - before. The display was really fascinating to me.

I have two good friends who owned a rare very early 944 Turbo built in 1984 but built to TurboCup specs "by Porsche AG". One was brought over to the US as a press car... the other one was "saved" by an engineer at Porsche in Weissach - who just could not bare to see the car crushed. Both cars eluded the crusher and were so called: "zero production" cars meant to find problems in the prototypes and refine the (early)production line(at the factory). It was interesting to see all the little details of my two friends car's that had differed from regular production 944Turbos.

Anyways... now onto my photos. I think you will agree with me the wait was worth it! Enjoy.

Dackel

Bellow are some really cool videos on Porsche's top secret storage facility, located near by to the museum. This is where every special museum car is stored - until it can be put on display at the museum or run live at some historic race event!

Great photo set! Thanks for them and for the videos too.

I bought a Porsche book years ago, and it describes a bizarre Porsche racing project.
At one time, Porsche completely dominated the DRM 3-liter division with the 935.
Other manufacturers belittled this by saying that Porsche couldn't win in the 2-liter division.
So Porsche responded by building just one special version of the 935 with a smaller engine and lighter bodywork.
They officially entered it in the 2-liter division at the start of the 1977 season.

The result? The 935/77 2.0 won its second race, then Porsche immediately withdrew from "small" division racing.
It qualified 3 seconds faster than anyone else, set fastest race lap, and won by 50 seconds.
Mission accomplished, nothing left to prove.

Oh, and that 935/77 2.0 beat the then-dominant Zakspeed-Fords and Schnitzer-BMWs.

Its really cool stuff. I remember reading about the 911 prototype with the flat 8 in it. Oh the impurity! But would be so awesome if they went that route.

Actually Alious Ruf told us(when I toured his facility) that they are developing their own water cooled ttV8 engines for use in the 911 platform. The reason is bc of today's M5's and AMG cars are really giving them Hell on the Autobahns. So Mr Ruf thinks that the only way they can get 800+ Hp is with a twin turbo V8 of his own design. It's gonna be very interesting to see how that pans out.

Dackel, yet again I am loving your posts! I am a fan favourite of the 928 one of the defining cars of my youth. I once saw a 959 in the town of Reigate outside London- it was Swiss with the plate 'GONE' - a sight I will never forget.
The 918 looks awesome in the martini livery.... Thank you

I like the water-cooled P-cars too. Actually Porsche has a new display devoted to these water-cooled Porsches. I will visit them soon.
