Fan grinding driver ventillation

Hey everyone,

I just got a very well maintained 16' 750xi with under 15k miles. Getting the PPI done soon, but I noticed when I turned in the cooling ventillation, I heard the fan grind for a second and then it seems to move on like normal. I looked it up and see there seems to have been a TSB at some point awhile back, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue?

PPI usually stands for pre-purchase inspection, not post-purchase inspection.

A TSB isn't a recall, so it's unlikely that you'll get BMW to pay for it, but hopefully it's not an expensive repair, or maybe you can learn to live with it if it's just a brief noise.

Congrats on the new car!

The car has a return window that I am still in, therefore I mentioned PPI as it's technically in the prepurchase window.

I acknowledge the TSB is not a recall, and didn't state it was. Fortunately the dealer has agreed to cover repair cost after local service dept. verified the TSB was for the model and the work wasn't done after they did a VIN lookup.

Thanks

You are lucky the dealer is covering costs. Unfortunately this will most likely be the first of further issues with that year and model 7

Yes I am grateful for that. And everything otherwise has been so far so good. If and when problems arise will cross that bridge as needed.

I can tell you that mine does it as well, under my right side in the driver seat. If I change my seating position it goes back to normal. My guess is they weren't meant for bigger folks.

I know you didn't state that, but not everyone is as well informed as you.

That's great news that the dealer is going to take care of it. Yes, these cars can be a little bit expensive to maintain, but most of the time it's worth it.
