Headlight washers

I saw a video of a 7 with headlight washers and they were working. I don’t have them on mine and I was wondering if anyone else had them or if they are an option..?

Not on mine either. Never liked the idea of headlight washers anyway.

That may be why some people don’t have them... Interesting!

No. The washer is optional on G11/12’s...(at least in U.K.) once they moved from xenon to LED lights (back in the F01/02’s) the requirement to have washers paired as mandatory was no longer needed. I’ve got laser lights and no headlight washers.

While the washers do use a lot of fluid when they activate they are useful...I’d spec them next time personally.

Safe travels.

(Edited to add change was done earlier in F01/02 series and correct spelling)

I have laser lights, but no washers - only a legal requirement with Xenon as far as I recall.

I had washers on the last 5 cars (Jags and Audi’s - even with Matrix LED) - good riddance I say as was constantly refilling the bottle!

My daughter's 528 has headlight washers. They are basically only good for splattering the entire front of your car with soap spots after you try to clean one bug off of the windshield.

Yep, agree with that totally. On the A8’s the headlights washed every x times you used the screen/windshield washers - you could spend the day polishing and waxing the car, and first time out clean the screen/windshield and spray all the bonnet/hood. A right pain - you did right coding them out!

That sounds really annoying! I already have my car filled with water spots from my hard water that would just make it even worse!! Thanks for your response

If you code them out in the UK you would have to code to be active for MOT.

The regs for MOT's state that where fitted they MUST work.

But I'm glad mine doesn't have them so that I don't get a dirty bonnet as mentioned above.

There is that. But on the other hand they can blast some winter crap of your headlights giving you enhanced vision in poor conditions. Also they look pretty cool in action!

I just rely on the lasers to clear them.

Try some GTechniq W9 to get rid of the water spots. We have very hard water too - I have an in-line filter I use to do the final rinse with (it’s the size of a fire extinguisher), but I can empty and refill the material inside - costs about £70 a year to run and does make life easier!

Is that just for your outdoor tap? Got a link to the one you use as thinking of getting one for my outdoor tap. The water here is very hard too. But I do dry the car completely and use a compressor to blow around the trim etc.

Here is the product. I have to replace the resin every 8-9 months. It really is good.

I’ve got the raceglaze filter, it’s made car cleaning so much easier.

I don’t buy the replacement resin from them though, much cheaper from a window cleaning supplier.

I have something similar for a saltwater fish tank I setup a couple years ago because it required 0 tds water lolll. It’s called an ro/di machine. I might consider hooking it up to my tap and washing the car with it!
