G12 740Ld Exhaust flaps

Does the 740Ld have exhaust flaps in the exhaust? Using Bimmerlink the option doesn't exist to open/close them.

So I am assuming not. Just wondering before I go hunting for a different exhaust for the car.

You can check if you look into the driver’s side you should be able to see the valve if there is one. I have a 740Li and I have one on the drivers side.

I think the 740d has fake engine noise? What’s the thinking on changing the exhaust, as if it’s for the sound it won’t make much (if any) difference unless you can turn the fake sound off.

It doesn't have the fake engine sound.

Was asking more for performance. I believe the performance exhausts from BMW are the ones with the flaps. So they're less restrictive (nothing to do with the flaps themselves)

Don't quote me as this is what I was told by a BMW Master tech.

The 'normal' exhausts are 700 cell
Performance exhausts are 450 cell
M car exhausts are 250 cell

So the performance ones are less restrictive.

I'm looking into to tuning it. Maybe an AC Schnitzer tuning box, they're foooking expensive at £3.5k but you do get a warranty.

Or maybe a remap.

The exhaust will allow things to flow better.

I seem to agree, as in the connected drive store it comes up with the option of Iconicsounds Sport, which is is £99 and allows for “more“ engine noise using technology already installed - sounds like it just changes the already “piped sound” for a different sound.

I don't think mine has the fake sound as that option is not available for my car. I thought it was only the petrol M-Sport version that could get that option? Unless it's M-Sport models only as mine is a Exclusive model.

I’ve checked and it’s only the M760 and 750d that have fake sound piped in

I stand corrected - I am surprised though, as mine does not sound like a diesel, and sounds very different inside the car vs outside
