Get Glue off Paint?

Somehow I have glue on my lower wheel arch and paint...

Must have driven over a pot of glue whilst I was asleep

It picks off fine but some of it doesn't any tips?

Maybe try acetone (fingernail polish remover)?

3M adhesive remover works very well and can remove most stuck on things, but be sure to test it in an inconspicuous place to make sure it does not dull the paint. I have used it on my car with no issue, but I used it to remove adhesive on the plastic back of a computer monitor and it dulled the plastic in that area. I think if there is clear coat over the part it will work fine, but better to be safe than sorry, especially when its a forum member giving you advice.

I would start with an ice cube to try and harden then pick off, then I would try a clay bar with lubricant, then tar remover and then onto some form of sticky stuff remover (either 3m or de-solve-it) but be prepared to have to polish, as I have seen plastics dull after use too as per previous post.

I have something I use for cleaning wheels called Tardis that gets most contamination off, but not tried that on bodywork paint.

The wife’s nail varnish remover usually does the job!

Just checked the Tardis label and it says it removes adhesive residue. I also have some Gtechniq W7, which is also a glue and tar remover, but won’t damage the underlying paint/wax etc - I use that for tar spots normally.

I don’t know how aggressive a solvent nail varnish remover is, but I always start with the least aggressive option first and work my way up to the more aggressive if I need to.

It so hard, and its in lumps...

It picks off in big bits which is theraputic.

I have googled nail polish remover and it takes paint off.

The 3M glue remover from amazon is badly rated and ruins paint.

I've had good results with "Goo-gone," which removes adhesive from things like labels, decals, etc. There are other glue removers too. I think one is called Goof Off. I'd test first of course.

If I find the tit who spilt that on the road. Can't be super glue has to be something that could have been in a big pot or a packet split. I didn't take eyes off road so no idea how it got there.

It looks a bit like how spray adhesive hardens, I have spray adhesive on my walls for stuff.

Hm.. In the UK we don't have that goo gone.

We have Sticky Stuff Remover or this weird stuff that is sold by a car and bike centre but does not say Paint on it.

I could also try warming it up and seeing if that softens it with a hair-drier. I a ssume paint can get hot because that is how they dry paint right?

If you want a easy readily available one then use a bit of petrol on a cloth.

Works for most things and if anyone tells you it ruins your paint just remind them how many people spill it on their cars when filling up. None of them have a streak of missing paint.

Otherwise, as mentioned, Tardis should get it off.

I wonder if that is lane marking paint or something similar? Of course you could make an insurance claim, but then you could be dinged on premiums for a one-car claim.

I use Goo Gone to get any tar and glue residue out.
