Moved to the dark side.

Have just traded in my 740e for an S Class . I have had the 7 for 10 months and although I liked it maybe it was the Hybrid option I missed my 6 cylinder engine. Surprisingly given the market here at present I got more for it than what I paid . So I have opted for an AMG line premium plus model in grey with dark interior.
Thanks for all your help maybe I will be back after realising my mistake

I hope you won't regret it, I am happy for you and congratulations, give some photos of new "chosen" ...

(I think if there was different engine in your seven, you would not dismiss this car)

Congrats! Post pictures and impressions of new interior and interface here please. Its always more interesting to get a view from someone who has actually been driving a G12 for some time.

It’s a MY 2018 so not the new one. It’s a 350d so Diesel engine .

Here’s a sneak peek , owner has been using it so a bit dirty. It will be fully serviced and valeted before picking it up on Jan 6th . Body work is in mint condition comes with heated and ventilated seats , panoramic roof , driver assistance pack , soft close doors.

Looks nice - hope you are happy with it. I have just sold a 2019 s350d LWB AMG Line Executive for work this week (in silver) that we have only had 6 months. Trade price has increased by about £4k since June, but so has the retail price, so made a modest profit, even though miles had increased by 15k, and it was calling for a B service.

One thing that caught us out is that not all Mercedes dealers can do work on S Class, some are classed as satellite dealers, and don’t have the necessary diagnostics kit - so with a failed air con compressor, all had to be done at an approved S class dealer - still don’t understand why!

I have a really good specialist lined up to look after the car for service and any repairs that might occur.Apart from the failed air compressor how did you find it ?

Never even saw it. Feedback from chauffeurs was that it was ok - not as nice to drive as A8L’s, but better comfort for rear seat passenger. Biggest gripe was having to drive nearly an hour to an approved S Class dealer, when we had a Mercedes’ dealer literally a stone’s throw away. I just bought and sold for the best price (fleet is part of my remit), so see lots of different brands, but only tend to hear about issue escalations - so tends to help inform my own private purchases!

Was just chauffeured in one of those

I was chauffeured in one of those a couple of weeks ago in Dubai. It was the Emirates Limo. My quick assessment was that the rear seats were more comfortable than my car. However the transmission in low gears and start stop was quite jerky! I've never had a complain with the ZF8 on the G12 nor on the F10 I had before it.

Other than that It was a fine ride, with a dash much superior to the latest S Class IMO. Here's a pic:

I really went back and forth between the 750 and my S560 before I got it, and I ALMOST got a 750, if I had been able to get one on a lot like I wanted I very well may have.

The S Class is more refined, the 7 is raw-er. The S rides a little better, seats are much better in the S. Both great cars.

Oh man
You will be back to BMW 7 series! trust me!

¼ of family is working for Mercedes and for the past 20 years I had only Mercs : 6x S class(500, 55, 63) , E(55, 400), ML(350, 63).
I sold my S500 for a 740xd and I LOVE IT !

That S350 will never come close to a 730. FACT ! Every time I see an S class around London I quickly look at the driver ...and shock! some dude with a cheap face driving it...nah. The S has lost the heritage ...sorry to say that.

Ask MB HO Milton Keynes how many technicians are 100% qualified with MB Germany. You will be shocked !!!! This is the UK stupid market of selling something without customer service... or with fake qualifications. Example: Service Manager working for MB Lakeside with a degree in Arts
never serviced my Mercs in the uk !
I know few top guys around London.

In Dublin you will find far better services for MB.

What does a cheap face look like? Never heard that term before.

Considering that they are considerably more expensive than a 7 Series I too question what a "cheap face" is lol.

Saying one is better than the other is just fanboy nonsense. They are both excellent, but they are different. I truly would have been happy with either one, but just a few things about the S Class won me over.

Sure, I love London

I did enjoy driving my 760 more than my S580.

Although the S580 is comfortable and does a lot of things well. It is growing on me.
Just not emotionally connected to it like I was to my 760.

I have had my car for over 3 weeks now , have to say I really love it. It’s more comfortable to me than the 7 whilst the BMW is definitely more sporty. Both great cars in my view but for me I have always preferred comfort.
