driving assistance - self steering
The driving assistance self steering system acts like a drunk sailor - constantly correcting even when going straight. What is your experience?

practically useless--my '14 MDX's had a better lane-keeping assist (and it wasn't that great IMO)

What year?
My 2017 540 is adequate but certainly not perfect Once used to it you know it's limitations. I think the latest version in the latest cars is probably improved For me in the U.K. for some reason it sits slightly to the left of the lane rather than centre . No idea why though For me traffic jam assist seems to be the best part of the system , maybe the lower speeds help Having said that I do use lane assist most if the time on the motorways if not in a rush |

2019 BMW M760i xDrive. It recently went through a wheel alignment at a BMW dealer. I wonder if they omitted or screwed up the camera and steering wheel sensor calibration.
Does anyone wheel alignment service instructions? The car does have four wheel steering - Integral Active Steering. |

It amazes me how some people think that this stuff is so great. I agree with (most of) you guys that it leaves a lot to be desired.
Fortunately it is a feature that can be turned off. And yes, it does seem to improve with every software update, but we don't often know what version our car is on. I wish I could turn off the active cruise when I don't want it.

I have no idea. It's not something I'd ever even think about doing on my own as alignment needs dedicated equipment. I've never had an issue with steering wheel position so I assume the service guys at my dealer know what they are doing. For that matter any competent alignment shop would know how to do this. I've had alignments on lots of cars at lots of different places (dealers, indys, tire shops) and the steering wheel was never an issue. Alignments may be different where there is IAS, and my car is still under warranty, which is why I had the dealer do it.

1. I had a 2016 (first year) 750li and the steering assistance was useless: it could not keep the lane for more than a few seconds, wondering off. Any lane imperfection would make it to lose it immediately.
2. now 2018 model - on mine it works pretty well now. Entirely useable and useful. It would lose a lane occasionally in more challenging conditions, otherwise is locked on it pretty good, following the turns, pretty smooth etc.
