How has your air suspension experience been?
Hi everyone, I've got a 2016 G11 750i I've been enjoying since last March, however, I haven't had the best experience with the air suspension. I've run into a few problems with it so far and have had to deal with the headache of taking it back and forth to the mechanic for the past month and a half. Some days the air suspension works for a week, then the next day I'll see it raised all the way up or sitting on the ground. Because of all this, I've really been considering if it's worth keeping the car if it's going to continue costing me more money without even being able to drive it. After I get my car out of the shop, I was considering trading it in for something else without air suspension but I can't seem to find anything that will compete for the car in its price range. My car is at 90,000kms now and I want to hear from others to see if it's likely more problems might arise.
How has everyone's experience been with the G11/G12's air suspension? |

I've had issues on my previous ones and my new one threw a code on the idrive within weeks but it went away, I've had 3 G11s and I'd never run one out of warranty.

I had quite a few issues myself with a 2019 750. Thankfully they were all repaired under warranty and I sold the car last month with 49K miles on the clock.
Like many things on a car air shocks wear out and are bound to need replacement. Hopefully you've found a good independent mechanic that will let you buy your own parts.

I had roughly 55K miles on my 2016 750i G12 and had no issues with my air ride suspension. I was also lowered too for half its life.

It could be as simple as a Modul or the links that help with the ride height. Hopefully minor.

With mine, I've had no issues, switching between driving modes etc. Using the auto lift function as well has been simple enough.
I did recently ~1-2 years replace air shocks on my Tahoe (different less compact animal yes) but I don't know how involved it would be to replace them on the 7 just yet. Maybe look through some of the tech docs pinned to the top of the board, might give an idea anyway. Hope it works out for you though |

I'm sure you're right, definitely not the shocks or the compressor. Most likely something electrical going wrong! I'll post updates when I get my car back.

I'm sure the process for the Tahoe and the 7 are very different, and I'll definitely look through some of the docs. Learning about all of this as I go. |

Interesting. I posted this thread about my air suspension, and didn't get many (just one or two) helpful replies. It makes me wonder how problem-prone the system is.

Nothing reported at my end. I am so glad that I had no issues whatsoever.

I think the module/controller is faulty.
Have you tried disabling it (hold for 7 seconds and release) and see if it goes back to default height as you drive it past ~15mph? You can also try the foxwell scanner for bmw to recalibrate it (or use the bimmerlink?) but i figure that wouldn't matter if the module is really defective. I have no problems with mine so far (or so I thought) but the car is still at 40k miles so there's that. But I do think that it has a mind of its own and is always active. When parked in the garage sometimes it would stay lower (sport height) as I turn off the engine. Sometimes it would immediately raise up to default (comfort) as soon as I close / open any door - or even the hood. Sometimes I would just see it either raising up or lowering down a bit for no apparent reason at all. My garage is completely flat/level, if that matters. That said, I still think it's normal for it to constantly correcting the height depending on certain conditions that it thinks is the case. The only gripe that I have is while it feels floaty on the highway, going over bumps isn't as smooth as I would have liked. |
