Engine Management Light.
Hello all
Apologies if this question has been asked already. Had a full service done on my 730d 3 days ago. Today I had to take it back for a diagnostic (£198) I was told the intake manifold needs replacing due to seized swirl flaps. They are quoting me £2300 for the work. I have no warranty, had the car for a year. My question is, should I take it somewhere else and get the job done cheaper or just begin the process of getting rid of the car? |

Wow that's a big bill, I would be inclined to go for a second opinion from a BMW specialist on the course of action and cost.
It may well be the case that it needs to the work and that's the price but I'd be trying to chip them down and checking around for pricing, out of interest how old is your car and how many miles? I've heard of swirl flap issues on the previous N57 engine but the B57 is meant to be much better, do a search on here in the 5 series forums to see if anyone else has had the issue as there are more posters on there.

Thanks for your response. It’s a 2017 model, I believe this year will make it 5 years old. If this is a production floor and I let them do the work, wouldn’t the same thing happen again after say another 5 years? The gentleman I dealt said he will see if BMW are willing to do any of the work under “goodwill” so I’m waiting for a response. My last 7 series (FO1) had a similar issue with the swirl flaps. |
