Well this sure got heated.

Looking forward personally to seeing how the new 7 looks inside and out, I've faith that some new class leading tech will be introduced that will be filtering down to my (lower ) models soon.

Look at the Audi A9 Prologue Concept, it is an close indication of what the next A8 will look like. New Lexus LS is the greatest threat however with new engines, like V6 Turbo+Hybrid and V8 Turbo.

It will look better in a years time when its actually finished doubt most parts there will even be in the interior on the final version.. the steering wheel looks like the same one from the future luxury concept

So far it doesn't look like the next generation 7 will be able to match the interior and exterior styling of the current S from MB. BMW really has to step it up and not keep playing catch up in this segment.

Everything BMW makes looks EXACTLY the same on the inside, and the interiors at this point are pretty dated. You buy a Merc, you get a different interior in every model.

Lol. We know you work for BMW so you have to defend everything the company does, but plain and simple you guys didn't do your homework here and the S-klasse is in a completely different league now and knocked it out of the park. The S-klasse is a luxury car. What's the 7 series now? It's too big and fat to be a driver's car, so I'm not sure how you can try and market it as anything other than the luxury car it should be, but seems not to be anymore - if it were, it wouldn't look like a 320i inside.

Sorry, but Mercedes flat-out outclassed you here, across the board:

By the way, there's a power extending footrest on that rear seat too, hot stone massagers, and the doors and armrests are even heated in this car. Better luck next time, BMW.
The new 7 series isnt even out yet how has the mercedes won? Last i heard the bentley muslanne and RR ghost destoryed the new S class.

High quality and superior materials have made s-class an ultimate machine. It is so huge improve over the previous model that i do not think the 7-series will take so big jump.
Mulsanne and RR beat the S class.

All Prototypes are hand built on a dedicated off-site production line in Munich.
Personally despite its quality the S-Klasse interior is too cluttered and looks like a 1980s home cinema the way the screens are stacked together.

The new BMW interior philosophy as introduced on the X5 and BMWi cars is to apply surfaces to accommodate next generation connected drive passenger display and extra minimalism to give the impression of a modern lounge. But keep that driver focused essence of a BMW. It also reduces many functions so that the driver can concentrate on the road.
It also allows extra space and more light into the cabin.

You have not seen the full picture yet.
Will it look like the Future luxury concept? it must take some concept ideas from that? the steering wheel looks like it!

From 2001 and beyond BMW has always struggled with design with the exception of the 3 series but then again the 3 series is their best seller so cash is plenty to play with. It's like they have too many fixed variables built into their design example being the kidney grille and twin covered headlight leaving little room to play with design.

Jason, I think you forgot to mention the newly designed steering wheels. Looks like a M-Sport one from the first picture but I don't think it's aggressive enough to be M-sport, so it might be the new non M-sport Steering wheels.

I'm curious about engine lineup:
1) Will there still be a V12 engine in the next-gen model? (i.e. like a 760Li M Sport)
2) If so, will it have more power and torque than this M770i xDrive that they speak of?

Sorry if I sound suspicious but we have been told this before and...(remember f25 x3 ...). Not looking good. I will miss the proper needles in the instrument cluster. the full digital on the s class look hideous. And those tail pipes?! even worse. But it does not compare to that panel gap on the front bumper/bonnet. You could fit an iphone through there. Almost as bad as the one on the x5. Good thing you have 1 year to go cause it certainly needs some polishing still

So excited to see the new design once all the camo comes off. I am certain BMW will hold true to their innovative ways and it will be stunning.

Yes there will be a heavily updated V12 engine. As a replacement for the 760Li.

There is not going to be a 770i.

Is it true that BMW will change the iDrive interface?
From what i can see in the new spy shots, that new interface looks BLAND, BORING and GENERIC compared to the current interface. I'd prefer the current interface by faaaaaaaaaaar.

If we were to compare both the VFL and the 7er they are similar in some areas but both are designed to be completely independent from each other.

The rules of the segment have changed especially in regards to affordable and high end luxury. The 7er as is the S-Klasse is in the affordable luxury category that is why they are not so exclusive. The VFL was to show were the market is heading especially for the next phase of the luxury market.
It is a concept that demonstrated a vision for a more exclusive BMW to which some customers want.

Vision Future Luxury is currently on a global feedback tour where currently it is in South Korea where 300 VIP potential customers will get an inside look at the car.

The VFL does give a view to the appearance of the new 7er in terms of design elements such as L shaped headlights and chiseled features but both cars can be distinguished when parked aside.

The Carbon cell structure within the VFL shows the structure of the next RR Phantom. Its the impossible made possible by using CFRP in a standard production car and especially a car like the 7er. And even more satisfying that it all begins a revolution for BMW in which are competitors are commentating on that it is too expense to use for them to utilise.

This is the all-new iDrive with touch-screen the high level versions also receive passenger display like the Vision Future Luxury.
This technology will also filter down to the entry 1er.

Here let me point...

Not really liking the center console. That's exactly the part I hate the most by the current 3 series (the fact that the console is not going all the way down to the bottom) and it looks like they are leaning against this design, at least a little bit, which would be pretty disappointing. Even though it looks better than the 3 series center console, of course. But I much more preferred the center console design of the 5, 6 and current 7 series.
