Steering wheel retrofit

Hello,

I have a 16' G11 Msport, but that comes with the older stlye Steering wheel with the heating button on the column.

I have bought a new style Steering wheel (did not arrive yet) that has the needed options (lane change, vibration, heating etc) but this one has the heating button on the front and has the shift paddals in addtion to mine.

Does anyone know will it be a direct fit or will I need to run some wireing and have some coding done?

Thank you

Can you share with the forum WHAT BMW steering wheel you purchased that has the heated steering wheel button moved back to the button pods that face the driver?

Did you buy it because you liked the wheel...or did your research verify that it is compatible with your set-up?

What chassis (F or G) or what model (5/6/7/8 series etc) is this BMW steering wheel from? Or is it an aftermarket steering wheel?

You may get a better response to your thread if you revealed some information about this steering wheel you want to know about. Most people aren't going to make comments about something they don't know what it is.

Did your car have paddle shifters on the steering wheel in the first place?

Yea, agreed, I know the new X7 has it on the face, because I was looking for it like crazy when I was driving it and couldnt find it. I was like wow no heated steering wheel lol. Finally found it at the bottom of the spoke.

Since this is a G11/G12 section of the Forum i assumed it is understood I am talking about a G11 steering wheel, as you know the 2016 and early 2017 G11 with M sport package has the "older" style wheel similar to non M package.

The wheel I bought is from a 2018 G11 M package with the round airbag and the steering wheel heating button in front rather than on the side column.

Does your old steering wheel have shift paddles?

I would say you ask your dealer because im not sure if the paddles will require some extra wiring or something so that they work

You must be outside the US, because we dont have G11's here only G12's, and my 2019 M Sport 750 does not have the button on the wheel it has it on the column, but I do have paddles.

I believe 2020 LCI 7's M-Sport steering wheel has the heating button on the front, but is also designed for ID7, with additional buttons/indicators.

Awesome! Would you mind providing a little additional information, like which wires you ran and to where, etc? What coding changes? Planning to do a similar swap in the near future.

Does your 2016 have the M Package? Mine is a 2016 M-Sport and has the paddle shifters on the older style steering wheel.

If your car does not have shift pedalls and you want to retrofit a steering wheel with pedalls you will need to run 1 wire from the steering cluster switch to your bdc, than code it to work.

Hello, I actually retrofitted my steering wheel from my November 2015 G11 by the MSport Steering

The most important thing is to find a compatible steering wheel, my original steering wheel had a heated steering wheel and all of the 5AT assistance functions, steering wheel paddles, steering wheel vibration, etc.

The most important thing is to find a double-stage airbag, because all versions of G11/12 have this function.

Then you have to recover the 2 modules of the original steering wheel as well as the wiring and the pushbuttons which are originally fitted to avoid recoding the whole with a possible risk of error.

Afterwards it's all a matter of logic and everything should be fine.

For the heated steering wheel control, the front one cannot be activated because it would have been necessary to remove the hub support and replace it, but the control on the steering column perfectly activates the steering wheel heating, here are the photos before and after.

Sorry if my english isn't perfect.

Good luck… :

The front steering wheel heating button can be coded to work.

Thanks, since you've done this, can you tell us what pin in the BDC? What coding changes?
