Have questions: bought 2018 Grigo Telesto Perl M760i, 12k miles on it

1] it is otherwise basically a new car, amazing shape. Had to take it off the market for $87k. Merino Individual Cashmere Beige. Full executive lounge in back.

but...showed up at the auction that the indy dealer got it at, with no android pad in the rear center console. Can I replace it with an aftermarket pad, or, must buy BMW?

2] has run-flats and speed limiter. Am I crazy? Am I hearing and feeling the run-flats hum (really low subwoofer frequency--it conflicts with the stereo and the engine sound) and slightly vibrate at 100 mph or above?

Love the car, hate the hum.

In short, you cannot use an off-the-shelf pad, even an identical Samsung model. The pad that came with the car is loaded with custom BMW firmware (on top of the Android os), as sell as a special back cover for docking. The pad is not very useful as a tablet (your smartphone would be much better) and most of the vehicle controls on the pad are already duplicated elsewhere via switches or the iDrive controller. I personally consider the pad just a gimmick to impress the backseat passengers. If you're anal about "completing" the look on your car, there're USED ones on eB for $400+, a pretty penny.
Yes, that rumble/hum you hear is from the RF tires.

thanks for the response. When I wrote that I was loopy from 11+ hours of driving all day.

I agree the pad is a bit of a gimmick. Only thing I can think of is if "Miss Daisy" (I named the passenger who sits behind the front passenger that) uses the recline and footrest feature and now, cannot reach the control pad for whatever they think they need to do with the "back of the seat pad". They could then grab the center console pad and adjust something.

I can see now that eBay seems to have one on occasion, and I am sure the dealer will charge what they charge to get it to sync. (probably another $500 for the flick of a switch)

thanks for the run-flats confirmation. Yeah, I am going to order a lighter set of forged rims and when I do, will get some non-run-flats. I confirmed what you said with some web-searches this morning. Again, loopy. Thanks again.

wife asked me on the way home: So, how do you like it compared to your 2004 760Li? I said: Well... It does everything better and faster, and the massage is now, not just a gimmick, but actually useful. Butt was sore after that many hours in the seat.

for me being 6'4" I also found I can actually bottom the seat out, lower than I can on the old E66, and for once, not be blocked by the rear view mirror and A pillars, for forward visibility. I have never been in a car where I can put the seat so low, the arm rests might be a bit high... nice option to have for a tall person.

I just sold a 2016 Jag F-Type R (AWD) to make room for this (I had to squeeze into that car) and am glad to again, have something with some strong acceleration.

if you buy a used OEM/BMW tablet, you can easily sync it to your car just as you would with any mobile devices, without the dealer's input.

I am 6’5” and I agree with you. I love a car with space. The only car I have more room in than my 760 is the S Class.

I bought my car used and the tablet was present, but faulty. Once I’d had the screen replaced it was easy to pair it with the car.

The kids find it useful for controlling media on the screens. And controlling the various blinds. As the seat back screens are non-touch on my car, I think it’s good to have the tablet.

It's typical for RFs to have a hum including cheaper harder compound non-RF tires. The best and most comfortable tires for this car has been the Michelin's PS4S. If you do the GOE one, it has a nice outer design that fits well with the elegance of the car.

You can see the darker ring and looks/feels like a velvet texture.

As for the limiter, there is one and only way to remove it is with a flash tune.

Bizarre to me that a 12 cylinder car has such a low speed limiter.

Another thing I find funny: I have owned and driven at least a decade on two E66 760Lis. That engine is glass-smooth-sounding. The engine on my M760i is a bit burbly and rumbly, like a V8. What I mean is I can hear "beats" when it is revving low, as if it is misfiring. (like bu-du-du-du -duh, really fast) I know a misfire, because the E66 V12 is prone to it when injectors die. But the M760 is throwing no codes. Has a ton of power, easily exceeds 600hp on the power meter on the dash. I need to look up and compare the firing angle and firing order. I am so used to dealing with a misfire with the N73 as it gets older, it makes me paranoid.

Flash tune = harder and harder to deal with in California. I will look into it.

GOE? I looked up that acronym. Came up snake eyes.

responded to a dude with a picture of a used one on Ebay. once I started conversing with him, he proffered up a picture of his last one for sale (where do these guys GET these things?) and it had stickers and was NIB. Same price, so I took it for $499. Showed me that it boots up with Connected Drive logos and everything. He said the same thing as you, for syncing it.

Bummer on the tune. It transforms the car.

GOE = Genesis Original Equipment

https://supremepower.com/product/mic...-genesis-102y/

It's a tire they made for the Genesis. It's kinda a limited edition tire or premium they called it once. The difference is the pattern on the outer face and the tread.

You can see the difference on Picture 1 vs Picture 2. Velvet finish with checkered flag

yeah, it's great, isn't it? and the exploration goes on. In a sedan, I am so used to just sitting with my legs with my knees bent sideways in the driver seat, I did not bother to try this. This morning, I figured out that the seat track lets me go back... way waaaaay back. So far back I can barely reach the touchscreen, and for once in my entire life (the i8 is like this), in a sedan, I can extend my legs straight forward instead of folding them up to either side, like a grasshopper, as I sit in a car and put my feet on the pedals.

OK I'll bite... how? I bought a touch command pad on Ebay, supposedly new. it boots up doing BMW connected drive. The car sees the touch command tablet.

I am doing

Communication
Devices (It sees the touch command I bought)
Touch Command

it asks the touch command pad to attach using wifi.

the touch command pad now says it is trying when I tap connect, but always fails. I have tried various timings, nothing works. I used to test software for a living. There is something out of sync, here. And I cannot figure out how to get into the Samsung tablet to force it to attach to the car using WiFi.

First thing I would try is to connect it to my home wifi to see if it actually works correctly and that there is no issue with the wifi module in the tablet.

I know you can connect it to other things, as I use mine in the car to connect to the BMW camera (Car Eye 2.0) to view the video stored on the micro SD card - saves taking the card out and plugging into something else - also, it’s the only time I get to sit in the rear of my car.

OK, thanks. I am an apple guy, I know zero about android. Cannot figure out how to get out of the Connected App interface and to an Android screen, so I can try getting onto my home wifi.

I figured it out. Some of the instructions I read for a hard factory data reset said to start from a booted state, which never worked.

but this SM-T230NW, , once I looked up the specific model, wants to be shut down while you do a reset.

https://hardreset.guru/articles/hard-reset-sm-h2/

So, start from a black screen, do the Home/Power/Volume Up button until you get into a boot screen and volume down until you see "Wipe Data/Factory Reset", and press power and say Yes, and just do it. The device will (after some time) come back up in Connected drive mode, then use the "Connect Devices" in your car's menu ( it is in almost every pane: Media, Communication, etc. and select Touch Command. And go thru the same steps.

In my case, when it first came up and showed things like seat functions, it crashed a couple of times, then got more stable , and now, seems happy.

thanks for the encouragement, folks!

Has anyone tried the G11/12 Pre-LCI tablet in a LCI 7?

The LCI-version is limited to just BMW-related functions like climate control, blinds, seats and so on. But on the Pre-LCI you can use the tablet as a tablet with android app and so on.

Or is it possible to flash/boot (or whatever its called) the newer version back to and older one and get functions like apps and screen sharing through the tablet?
