Tuned M760i Owners

I'm considering tuning my G12 2018 M760i.

If you have a tuned M760i, please let me know who tuned it, if it feels faster, and your overall satisfaction with the tuning process.

I'm in Northern California, so I'll need a local tuner, or an outfit that tunes remotely.

My neighbor has a M760i that's tuned by DME tuning. I got to do a before/after test drive and it's a night and day difference. Nice improvement with throttle response, no turbo lag, and increased power. I have a DME tube on my 750i too. He's done all my cars including an F10 M5 I used to have. It's remote tuned.

Mission Performance is in California and very reputable if you'd rather go local.

I have a Noelle Performance tune with about 10,000 miles driving with the tune, and I have just over 40,000 miles on her. I can say it's quicker and really pulls past 100 mph compared to stock. 800hp/800ft-lbs. They don't advertise the tune on their website, you have to call and setup an appointment, the tune takes about 5hours to install for each ECU, TCU, Suspension, DCT, etc…

Sounds right up my alley? Just purchased a low mile 18 M760i, and am thinking of a tune. 800hp? What, (if any) other modifications did it take to get there?

There were no other modifications required. I was recommended to change transmission fluid every 50k miles, engine oil every 5000-7500, and spark plugs every 50k miles. I'm at 48,000 miles now and will be doing my trans fluid in the spring myself, as I've as was done on my past two 750s. If you don't do anything else, make sure you do the trans fluid.

For the other items, my dealership gives me good labor prices as long as I bring them BMW products which I order from distribution centers (avoid dealer markups).

If you don't mind me asking, where do you get your transmission fluid change kit from? The M760i has the same transmission as the 750i I think, the ZF 8HP50?

I get my filters (all one piece trans pan/filter) from
https://www.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/parts.

In my E65 750, I used zf6hp fluid, but in my 2010 750 Active-hybrid I used redline D6 ATF: https://www.redlineoil.com/d6-atf

In the v8 hybrid with a ecu tune, I changed to redline fluid at 75k miles. This car had the zf8hp trans. I traded the car in with around 180,000 miles with no trans issues at all.

To me, the redline seems to handle a lot more abuse when hot and driving hard.

On BMW website the trans is zf8hp95, but if you are shopping around on the web, you could search for GA8hp95z

I am currently waiting for the car to arrive. I plan on Motor and Trans Fluid changes on arrival. The car was offered as a CPO a few months and 1500 miles ago. It was wholesaled to a Honda store (no more CPO coverage), and I'm buying it from them from across the country... 21k miles... a few months left of warranty...

I saw video from DMS in the UK with the same 800hp claim, stating they could do more, but for the sake of the drivetrain being the weak link...

I also see Vivid and DME tunes in the 700-720hp range...

Nearest BMW store is an hour and a half away, and I have zero relationship with em. They bought the local BMW dealership, though it is a lot of the same people that moved with the store in the service dept...

There is a Noelle Dealer/Service Shop about 2.5 hours from me though...

Per Ron @Noelle, the 800hp tuneup is for M5 only, 725hp is available. Factory plugs are okay, Changing them and trans service ever 40k...
🤷

Awaiting the local Noelle dealer (Strictly BMW in the Seattle area) to confirm some stuff with Noelle and get back to me...

Currently making me reconsider... Vivid or DME with significantly less cost for more or less the same tune. Though DME is wanting the colder plugs and more regular maintenance with the plugs... etc. 🤔

I would recommend going with whichever company you feel comfortable with. I have seen great reviews on DME. I just wanted the most bang for the buck. I also like the fact that DME can perform the tune vial OBD port we're Noelle will pull the DMEs for individual programming which for me was 6 hours.

My first ten was 760hp, but after a software update at the dealership (wiped flash), I had to go back for another 6 hours of tuning to communicate with the new software and verify check-sum. With the new software update + tune I was able to see hp & tq flatline at 800, but before it would only go to about 760hp/800tq 🤔. I was told that power will be different for every vehicle, bc the tune is completely customized and locked to the vehicle.

If you're not going to push the car, keep your money. It wouldn't be worth any tune if your not going to enjoy it & stay on top of maintenance.

Looked the same way for Bang for the Buck...

Look at the user name and search YouTube for my name. Let me know if you think I won't be Pushing the car. 😉

Track for a few laps once or twice a year most likely. Relatively low street mileage a year, probably 3k miles/yr I'd think.

Maintenance won't be a problem. Spending the coin on maintenance is better than spending huge money on catastrophic repairs. I've spent almost $30k to repair a $90k motor before. I know better lol

This is gonna be fun.

Antwan, it sounds like there were dyno pulls during this tuning? Do you have the dyno charts to share, please?

Hi, there are no dyno pulls for me. The nearest dyno is nearly 3 or 4 hours away from me. The only thing I have is my time sheet showing 11.7 in the 1/4 mile for stock. I'll most likely hit the track again in the spring if I can get away from the wife & kids. If I'm not in the ten's then I'll definitely be updating my post about the Noelle Performance and contacting them.

Thanks for the response, this sent me into overdrive, since I had not heard of Noelle before. Once I looked them up and talked to Ron few times, I decided to go with it. I have my “before” numbers from Dragy. For me 1/4 mile was 11.81 at 118.6 mph. I had run flats on the car before, so there is a limiter at 130 mph.

Noelle can update the sport display to show new HP and torque numbers, while they are not 100% accurate, I don’t think any other tuner knows how to update them so they show the new power numbers. Mine peaks at 800hp as well and around 760 ft lbs or so, as well. Fine by me. This started to even out once I drive the car a whole bunch under a lot of different circumstances, including slow traffic, being in manual gears and revving thru the entire RPM range, etc. According to Ron, the car does need some time for the adaptive to re-learn.

Thanks for the post! Once I get the car fully adapted, I plan to do some more runs and post the results.

The reason most people haven't heard of Noelle is because Noelle was providing flash tunes for others to sell as their own around the world. In North America Dinan was the biggest BMW flash tuner so if you've heard of people loving the gains, smoothness, and reliability of their Dinan flash tunes...

Like you, it seems, rather than fear to hate on them, like a lot of forum members do, I have read up on them extensively, and spoken to Ron on the phone several times, and compared what I heard from other tuners regarding the N74 motor.

BTW to the original poster, I had mine done at Silicon Valley Bimmer. in Santa Clara, near the airport. great place!
