750i turbo coolant line upgrade

Hey guys, I'm looking into purchasing a 2016 750i xDrive. The vehicle has 58k miles, seems to be very clean with 1 owner. I was doing research on the N63R and noticed a few people complaining about turbo coolant line leaks. I found a service bulletin (linked below) from BMW with a new replacement part 11 53 7 934 643 which will fix the problem, but that part is out of production.

Is there a replacement for this part? How frequently do these coolant lines fail?

Appreciate any input from higher mileage 750i owners.

Hi
Yes BMW requires to upgrade to a new coolant line system.
The bulletin you attached is spot on. This is a common problem and I had exactly this problem and got it fixed on my 2016 G11 750i (140´000 km).

I attach:
1) how the old coolant lines looked like (you will see the leakage) - and I guess is how the one you are considering looks like
2) the new coolant line (fitted 3 months ago so these spare parts do exist)
3) as a reference how it is done on the upgraded N63 (I believe a N63TU3) - the picture is from a BMW M850i

So I would require the system to be upgraded as part of the deal, because those rubber hoses will not last. Guaranteed.

Chances are that these lines have already been replaced during a service.

If the part nr. you are referring to is out of production, then it has been superseded by a newer part. You can get part numbers and service history from your local dealer.

Addition: I checked the replacement part 11 53 7 934 643, referenced in the bulletin. Indeed that part is not available anymore as it is the same and old rubber hoses. Now BMW does not allow anymore to just substitute the old rubber hoses with new ones. They have to do a overhaul as shown in the picture with parts from TU3 upgrade. So you are correct that those parts are not available anymore. If you get a leakage, and you want a BMW dealer to fix it, they have to do the upgrade.

The upgrade can cost ca. USD 3000. (it was NOK 27'000 in Norway, but fortunately under car warranty).

I hope this helps.

Thank you for this, makes SO much more sense now. Besides these and the solenoids, has your 750i been fairly reliable?

I asked the selling dealership (BMW dealer) to check and the service manager told me the turbo coolant lines have been done under the TSB/recall. So from what they are saying, that part number I shared is what they should have used on this car.

I'm hoping that solves the coolant problem.

Not very reliable, unfortunately - I also had a leakage in the crankcase ventilation hose.
(this thing on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/225359055031)

They changed it and another 1000 USD (also under warranty fortunately).
Picture attached.

Oh okay, I'll keep an eye out on that too. Overall the part is pretty cheap and seems like an easy DIY.

Hi, let me share some recent experience about that coolant line repair/upgrade.
I have a 2018 750Li with 22500 KM. This is called Alpina B7 by the dealership.

Some months ago messages about low level coolant appeared then in July I went to the
local dealership. They told me the coolant hoses must be replaced but for that job to be
done both turbos must be removed with also other various parts. For this they charge
14 mechanics-hours plus required new parts. These hoses, various hardware plus new
coolant cost 2192 $CAN (+taxes (15%))

Now the car is repaired but I still cannot figure and accept that 14 hours of mechanics time
that cost 200 $CAN/hour. At that price I am supposed to have mechanics with Olympics
medals and Grammy Awards. Or is it a place in the Rip-Off Hall of Fame ?
This is 2800 $CAN for labor +taxes (15%). Then there is that point about KMs, 22500 KM
seems low for that coolant system problem to happen.
What is the cost of an equivalent repair (at BMW dealership) in the U.S. ?
This is my first BMW car. Maybe all this is normal ...... comments are welcome.
Thanks
