BMW is very progressive in their design. That is why most people can't get their heads around it... they're still in the present. Which is fine, but not for a top tier automotive giant.

It gets me very time, how almost all comments are negative at first, only to wane in its intensity and eventually mostly gone. Does people not learn?

Each to their own , we're all going to disagree here ( and that's fine).
The sales figures will determine if this the right direction

I still haven't got over the e60!

Absolutely, the hood lines are completely different, the lower fascia is different and we can be sure the rear of the car is completely different from all those renders.

To be honest, I have not seen such an aggressively designed 7 series, the looks, features (ones we know if so far,), power, and again, the DESIGN.

This really should be a KILLER for the S class and EQS.

Seriously? Getting its shit together for Audi? The biggest loser of the last decade? You know the gap between BMW and Audi has never been bigger right? Both in terms of sales and critical acclaim.
I hope Audi gets its shit together, it was nice to have an alternative to BMW in early 2000s. Now, they're not even competing.

What do you mean not proportional? So there needs to be some fixed proportion between car's body parts? Who decided on that?
No, there's no specific science behind it. I just feel that the 2 most noticable features on the front of the car is the grill and headlights. To me, it looks a little jarring that the grills are so big and the headlights are laser thin. Same way people are saying that the large grill works with a large SUV like the x7, but doesn't do as well on sedans/coupes like the m3/4 or upcoming 7 series.

I totally agree, this may end up to be an S-Killer. Interior is definitely better, we know it from ix. It will probably drive better too. We'll see!

And I think the sketched design may end up in an M performance model or such.

I hope everyone hates this car. That way, I can get one fully loaded at an awesome price. Who cares about what people's opinion of the car's appearance (as long as it is not butt ugly) when buying a car. Your money, your choice. I care about the tech and hope that BMW better not overpromise. And if you think Tesla is the most high tech, that's a different kool-aid for a different day.

Looking forward to seeing this baby in person, testing out the techs, and if the drive checks out (still drives like a BMW), let's talk price.

What would really be cool is the large rear screen fold up, slide forward, and come down in the front of the steering wheel. That way, I can utilize it as a VR Level 5 autonomous mode.

In its current mode, I suspect very few people will utilize it unless they are chauffeured. Even then, big screen in your face is kind of old when you already have a dedicated theater room at home and other large monitors around the house.

Just imagine those beautiful and aggressive headlights combined with a smaller grill. That would have made a world of difference.

Somehow, I get the feeling of being underwhelmed by the interior more than the exterior. I suppose I need to see it in person before I decide whether I like it or not. That said, I'm rather disappointed by the way the door handles look and operate. The older door handles such as ones seen on the G12 or the 2020 MB S is much better - at least for me. I don't want gimmicks with the door handles. I want one that is classy, sturdy, and works.

It looks like the IX interior will be adopted here... and sadly, I must admit I am disappointed. The new 'modern' lack-ury styling is such a turn off for me as it creates a sense that I'm getting into a overpriced econo-affordable item rather than a flagship vehicle. I can see how this would be attractive for a mid grade vehicle but I would have hoped for a better incorporation of oppulence and elegance into the interior design.

I really don't want to feel like I'm getting into yet another econo car like the Honda Civic/Toyota Prius/Tesla Model 3/ etc. I want the cabin to feel elegant, oppulent, elegant, and special. In terms of design, the 2020 S class pulled it off well and so did the new Flying Spur... but these new cohorts of vehicles... leave much to be desired for me.

For MB, the new S class interior design language is lacking as well... as they have wrecked that elegant interior design for that new hideous tack-on Toyota feel...in how they redesigned the interior. Having had a chance to play with the new S class, I could see how the car itself was better, but found the massive screen/lack of buttons/use & control to be annoying to use at best and dangerous at worst as I'm trying to adjust silly climate controls swiping around instead of simple and easy buttons. Not to mention the interior quality of the standard S class is less sturdy and significantly worse than the previous generation.

All that said, I'll give it a fair shot and see it in person when available. Although I'm thinking I won't like it, I'm hoping that seeing the new 7 series in person will certainly change my mind for the better.

Not sure if this has been posted, but this gives you the best look at the car. I think it'll have a pretty nice presence on the road, and the interior looks to be pretty revolutionary.

At 40 seconds, I think there will still be two separate kidneys but no illumination where they are close together in the middle since that would not look very artistic. The grill is not going to be flat either which adds more detailing to its shape.

I'm not sure why most commenters are so concern with grille size. It's seems like a repeat of the Lexus grille commenters. Change is difficult, but that's the design direction for the foreseeable future.

Off course it looks nice. The design looks sharp, it does not have split headlights or the ugly hood line.

I am very positively impressed! The front-end looks very promising. BMW does not stick to the past, this car looks like a huge leap forward.
It has great presence on the road, worthy of a 7. The grille works very well here. The split headlights kind of remind me of the RR Drophead Coupe.
Can't wait for the full reveal, specially the interior.

I honestly don't mind the big grills but for the love of God I hope they drop the buttprint design. IMHO the M4 looks so much better than the 440 because the kidneys are separated. I absolutely hate the buttprints. The sketch looks better because the grill looks more like the XM concept and less like the 4 series buttprints.

Perfectly said. That's what I keep saying to anyone I meet who bashes BMWs. They may be controversial to some. Usually they start by bashing and attacking the design, but in 2 months time they all want one.
