Anyone here have the ability to activate CarPlay or know anyone? Also want to get my maps updated too.
Is CarPlay wireless on the 2016 G12? Thanks

Your BMW maps should be receiving updates via the WiFi connection. Mine has had 2-3 map updates just within the past couple weeks it seems. It has a prompt that pops up saying "New map data has been downloaded, do you want to start using it?" or something like that. I always accept because why not?
CarPlay is wireless if you have the WiFi antenna in your model. There are several places that you can pay to activate CarPlay (like Bimmer-Tech.net) but there are also some guys on here that can do it cheaper, and full screen. If you choose to use CarPlay, then that overrides the built in BMW maps, so you don't have to worry about the maps being updated as they would always be up to date on the phone. If you use CarPlay, you can also use Waze maps which is by far one of the best options especially if you live in a big city with lots of traffic, police, etc. Waze (with enough users participating) can give you the most accurate and up to date traffic info possible. |

Waze is great until everyone in the herd starts following the same Waze directions. These systems are also absolutely binary in the sense that they will detour you if there is a one minute saving. So using your head and your local knowledge of traffic patterns is still required.

You are right about the ridiculous detours with Waze. Common sense usually always prevails in the actual navigation portion, but the social media aspect is great for knowing when there is slowed traffic, accidents, cops, etc.

I do have the WiFi antenna. That would be great. Anyone you know on the forums that offers it? Waze is great! Thanks for your help. I was worried this page was too quiet compared to the M5 page. Haha

You might try this guy who was posting a while back about helping with adding CarPlay.
