Changing rim sizes

I have a 740i M package that has 20" rims. I want to go to a 19" M rim. Does anyone know of any issues or changes that would have to be made? May be a stupid question, but thought someone may know.

As long as the wheel specs fit, everything should be fine. You can also adjust the ride height accordingly if you wish to, through ISTA. It should be fine to drive without adjusting it as well.

Not a stupid question, everyone learns somehow!

Ride height doesn’t change with the wheels.

If you open ISTA actually, there is an option to "adjust ride height" in order to set it to OEM specification, it does ask what the diameter of the wheel is. On the majority of other cars, you're right that it shouldn't have to change and it still doesn't have to on the 7, but I'm just saying that if he wanted to go the extra mile that he could set it to factory BMW specifications depending on the wheel diameter.

You’ll be aware that in that software the measurement is from the edge of the lower rim, not the ground. That’s the reason the wheel diameter matters. Not because the ride height needs to differ.

Ah, I believe we're actually thinking of the same thing. I don't mean that the car would need to be lowered or raised, but just that if he wanted to re-calibrate it. I personally do so every now and then when I feel that maybe it's not properly self-levelling. But yes, I am aware that it is measured from the lowest part of the wheel's rim.

Anyways, I'm sure this all answered his question. To keep it simple, there's nothing you need to change.

Nothing if you stay with the BMW wheel/tire specs for each size you spoke of. The 19" & 20" tire info is in your owners manual (or it used to be) ...or on your driver's door jamb.

I have changed rim sizes a few times with no issues. More importantly, I still have my stock 19" M-Sport Rims if you are in the market?
