What does "remote battery discharged" mean?

I have both keys in the car, the i-key or whatever its called and the normal key

But the key warning keeps coming up like every 15 seconds on the dash with a chime...

The smart key, feature key, show off key, is switched off and is in the charger... is this warning the normal key battery?

I think that is the CR2032 battery in your key. I had the same thing a couple of weeks ago, and just went onto Amazon and got a pack of 6 Duracell, as all the key fobs for my cars take the same battery.

Righto... on it.

You know the car industry is in trouble. When your car is so old you change your key batteries.

Mine are lasting about 15 - 16 months each, so quite reasonable given keyless entry.

I recall the old e39 keys had a battery in them that was charged when the key was inserted in the car.
Progress!

There is a rechargeable battery in the display key, which can be charged via USB or using the induction charger in the armrest. It is too big to carry around though - mine just sits in its box in a cupboard. With keyless entry and start, the key just stays in your pocket, so no opportunity to charge it like you did with the e39.

I use my display as the first key .It fits in my pocket nicely. I rather enjoy carrying it around . When I'm not driving the car , I just leave it hooked up to the USB

I don’t really like using the USB socket on the display key. I charge mine wirelessly indoors.
