Close up peek at 2016 7 Series instrument display and steering wheel
BIMMERPOST NEWS 2016 7 Series BMW instrument display and steering wheel revealed We've spied the next gen G11/G12 7 Series' display gauges before, but here's the closest look yet and it once again confirms a hybrid physical/digital multifunction display. Physical semi-circles frame the speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge and temperature gauge, while the speedometer and tachometer numbers appear to be part printed and part digital. The gauges are colored red as the car is in Sport mode, so we expect that the display gauges overall look will change with the car's current mode (Sport, Comfort, Eco Pro), much like that seen on BMW's full multifunction digital instrument displays The next gen 7 Series is also expected to feature a touchscreen iDrive display and other cutting edge technology, as we've shown and discussed here: http://www.7post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1010286 As for the production G11/G12's exterior? Well, that was mostly fully revealed in these photos. Follow our BMW 7 Series coverage at: http://www.bimmerpost.com/7-series/ Photo source: Bimmertoday / Instagram. Previous looks at the interior. |

I'm into this type of interior more than the new Merc S Class, most of my mates don't think that!
I like the general looking of the up coming 7 series, it seems the leaked photos totally legit!

I'm guessing by the thickness of the steering wheel, that has to be a M-Sport? And that's way too much chrome...that doesn't look good.

We're getting there...just another stretch...with a little more engineering effort and aggressive design campaign, we should be able to pull this off and beat competition...

I bet the chrome look on the steering wheel was selected to appeal to Chinese buyers. They buy more BMW's than the U.S., and their preferences will likely be a big part of BMW's future design.

Funny, the other series didn't even get the current full digital display dash.
Its nice, but I can care less if the tech doesn't reach into lower series cars.

I dunno. I think it's weird that the needles for the tach and speedo don't extend across the digits themselves: they're too short. It's silly because those digits are also digital -- just integrated in a different display.
I think the existing 6WB digital cluster looks better. They just needed to update it with a better display (high resolution OLED would've been nice) with higher refresh rate and more personalization/configurability. Seems like one of the biggest complaints for 6WB is you can't configure the lettering to remain white even when the headlights are on. I don't think it's an M Sport wheel since it doesn't have the paddle shifters. |

MB's entire design teams needs a whole re-shuffling...I think they should hire more HR's to kick some BOT and resolve their issues in that department...they absolutely make hideous interiors IMO... exterior front design is catching up...still rear designs are horrendous...like are you kidding me right now with this: |

The whole idea with screens to replace the classic needles in wrong. From my professional Man-Machine-Interaction Human Factors background I say throw the screens out. A screen is like a lamp producing way to much blinding light. Physical needles are sharper than any screen can produce a fake needle with even more so fake shadows.
I like the way they have set up the dials in the M4 with the exception of color choice. They should have gone amber/orange needles and green light on the numbers etc. also the stupid designer silver dial rims have to go. Yes You get where I am heading.... to the instrument cluster of the SAAB 9000. The pinnacle of human centered design of any automobile. My colleagues at the Swedish Defense Research Agency (Swedish DARPA), "helped" Saab Automobile getting it right just as they had done in the cockpits of SAAB 37 VIGGEN and, 39 Gripen. Since SAAB does not make any cars today I think BMW with its very own aviation background should pick up the technological knowledge Saab possessed and make the BMW cars into real "Fighter Jets".

Am I the only one who thinks the LCD tach screens look a kind of cheap?
It is of course being sold as top notch tech, but its all about costs naturaly. Call me old fashioned, but I do like the old style way better. |

There's something off with that photo. I'm not saying it's a fake but it looks.. weird. I'll hold off any judgement until I've seen something more legit.
