Car inspection with tints.. anyone do this yet?

From what im told, the scanner guns now have a camera attached and inspection stations are required to take photos at steps of the inspection. This includes window tint as one of the steps as proof the car was not tinted when it received its new sticker.

Thankfully i went in december to get my inspection and have another 10 months for more information to surface.

any Service Advisors or Techs want to chime in?

yea i got mine in November.. so im good for a bit..

there has to be a way around this..

Haven't had any problems like this in PA. I also haven't had a car try to pass inspection with tinted windows since 2012, so not sure if regulations have changed since. Even then, 20% tint passed multiple years in a row for me. Will be trying again with tint though in June for the first time since, so I'm hoping they haven't changed requirements.

it got changed in new York as of jan 1st.

So did they use the tint radar? Also what % tint are you?

windows from the factory are the acceptable tint level of 70% light transmission. Any film applied to a sedan fails. any tint applied to the front driver and passenger windows on an suv fail.

tint shops are lobbying to get the 70% changed to 30%. That is still like having your windows tinted with 50% tint. my 25% suntek cxp tint registers at 16% on a meter.

yes... the question is how do they do it.. is it a tint meter and they manually put the numbers in.. or is it hooked up to the pc and it is automatically put in..

i need someone who has gotten it done to know for sure.. there has to be a way around this somehow.

Thats what im still trying to find out. if its just a manual process, we're good and can find a shop that can help us out in exchange for beer, etc...

Hey guys, I just took my car into a local shop and got my inspection sticker. They gave me zero problems and I have 25% tint all around

Incase anyone is closeby and is looking for a place to pass inspection and not have tint problems

Edit* well seems like lots of places are ignoring the tint laws yes

I went to a few shops, 3 in total, the first 2 shops said no go due to the tints, 3 shop passed me because a co-worker knew the shop owner. The Bronx NY. I have 5% tints all around except windshield.
