Got rear ended last night :(
Havent even had it a month.. luckily do to some quick thinking the damage wasnt terrible, no bags deployed, nothing other than body work, exhaust and probably the bumper core damaged (seemingly). I estimate he hit at about 20 mph, coming up to a stop light. I think i faired a bit better than his 300. Waiting on insurance company now.

As disappointing as it may be, this is a small problem. The bumper will be replaced and repainted. Glad no one was hurt.

Just crawled under it today to check it over and make sure it's okay to drive. It broke 2 exhaust hangars and the bumper core looks untouched. So hopefully a fast easy repair with the insurance.

When the car's repaired, the gap between the trunk and edge should be consistent all the way around, and the trunk should not be higher or lower than the surrounding area at any point. Because the battery is in the rear, check FOR YOURSELF that the battery ground cable is very firmly attached to the chassis ground after the repairs are complete. In other words, not the ground connection to the battery, but the OTHER SIDE of that cable. If it's loose, you'll have electrical problems forever, and they'll be doing a lot of work back there. A good mechanic will be happy to show you, and a bad mechanic won't listen when you tell him, "Make sure that you check/tighten/inspect ____" |

Can a hit to the rear cause the sub frame to be bent slightly?
I was hit in the rear by a freightliner truck a back in July. There was some minor paint damage to bumper and I figured I would get to it. Anyhow a few weeks later both my Run flats basically were toast on the inner walls. They were ground down to the belts. The tire place said I needed an alignment and gave me one. Back in December my brand new tires were toast again! after only 4,000 miles. Same thing! Finally, I took the car to my local BMW Dealer and they examined the car and said "You have a bent subframe from the rear end hit." Progressive denied the claim saying that BMW repairs should the rear wheels were replaced 2x in 20k miles before I bought the car from their CPO program. Now neither the dealer nor the insurance company will pay! Any suggestions or guidance would help. Thanks. Russell |
