Jean ink transfer

Thought I would be safe with the black merino & alcantara/midrand beige merino, but a little over 1000 miles in and I'm already getting some ink transfer from my jeans. I know there are products to get rid of it, which is great, but does anyone know any ways to prevent it?

I’m not trying to be a dick- but have you washed your jeans a few times? Are they new ones? I’ve only had ink issues when brand new and maybe after one wash. Other than that, no clue how to prevent it

For the most part yes, but its possible I've worn a pair with only a few washes. I think my biggest issue is that I wear jeans (almost) everyday which is great for comfort, not so much for my seats apparently

I've got the same interior... now I'm concerned. Can you post a few pics of the ink/color transfer?

“ Fill a bucket with cold water and add a cup of white vinegar. Turn your jeans inside out, and submerge them in the bucket for at least an hour, up to overnight. After soaking, place the item in your washing machine. Add either a cup of vinegar, or the recommended amount of a detergent formulated for dark clothing.” maybe this will work?

“ There’s an easy way to test for color-fastness when shopping for a new pair of jeans, or when you bring a new pair home. Just rub a white piece of paper agains the denim. If the paper comes away with any discoloration, that’s a good sign that you’ll end up with blue residue everywhere if you wear them immediately!”

It's not that bad and tough to see in pics, but noticeable compared to the seat back

It will probably scrub out with simple leather cleaners. The problem is you may have to do this every couple of weeks. I have oyster interior on M340i and it looks fantastic but is regrettable in regards to maintenance if you wear jeans.

After cleaning back to original condition I would try putting a coating of Gyeon Q2 Leathershield or equivalent leather nano-coating.

Wow, I've never thought about this since I've always had a black interior. But maybe I need to consider this since I was considering the orange seats...

Please keep us posted and let us know if it cleans off easily!

Guessing you mean the Alcantara seats as in the pic

But i have the Sakhir Orange and its a million times easier to keep looking new than my previous bmw as that had Ivory White leather. The Orange will still start to look darker on the top of side bolsters (if that makes sense). I think its from rubbing over it with jeans getting in and out but small spot of autoglym leather cleaner and it lifts straight off.

I've got the same interior as you. Maybe sit on a towel for a while? At least until the jeans stop bleeding.

I had raw denim jeans I thought I had washed enough but 2 weeks after getting a new Q7 the brown leather on the drivers seat had a huge blue stain on it. After a couple of months I guess the leather absorbed it and it faded away on its own. I wouldn't stress too hard and just test your jeans (or anything indigo dyed) like a previous poster said and use a gentle cleaner to get out what you can now.

Warm water + microfiber cloth. Wipe it down weekly and it will never stain. Comes right off.

I wear jeans 90% of the time and yes the color does transfer to the seats. However the weekly wipe down wipes away the transfer and keeps the seats looking brand new.

It's not rocket science.

Any regular leather cleaner should remove that without an issue. I prefer Sonax leather cleaner personally.

Thanks. I did mean orange; I had assumed it would be problematic, too, since it's also a lighter color. Glad to hear its not an irreversible issue. Thanks!

Smart man I thought I was the only one that did this shit although it was very long ago lol. To the OP sitting on a towel always works as well or washing multiple times with color and fabric safe detergent.

Dude, I sense your confusion, and obviously you have questions:

Thing is, they've made humongous progress in clothing textiles since the 70s. (check into a different barber too!)

Same interior here. I wear black levis. No matter the # of washes the seat will blacken. I clean it every weekend, takes less than 2 mins. Had the same issue with my previous x3 (red/black leather)

I have an M4 with Opal white leather and typically wear khakis and/or light color shorts, but after wearing black jeans for the winter I did start to notice some dye transfer. That said, I've not cleaned the seats a single time so this is after about 2 years:

Not too bad.

For comparison, same seats in Sakhir Orange never cleaned once in 3 years:

they're ready for a wipe down but still pretty clean looking IMO
