Continental tires - stone/rock/pebble throwing from tires

After having many different sets of tires over the years on various cars, I have never experienced to the extent of the OEM Continental tires kick up small pebbles, stones, and debris from the tires. This is very noticeable when you drive over roads with these conditions. Even fine little debris you can hear the tires kicking up the debris. When looking under the rear bumper right behind the rear tires, I observed the paint has several chips and blemishes from the tires kicking up all the debris. It seems the tire compound of the Continental tires has an extra sticky surface that pulls and throws all the normal road debris.

Do the Michelin tires have this same issue?

all summer performance tires do the same. You can always switch to All-Season, harder rubber.

You can also put a strip of PPF to protect the more vulnerable areas.

It's the softer, stickier compound on high performance tires. Will occur with practical any tire sharing the same characteristics.

All performance tires do this. It's the main reason I did PPF on my entire F80 when I owned that car. It's killing me that I know that parts of my X3M are going to get rekt because of this, but I'm trying to ignore it. I did full nose PPF, but I might have them add something behind the rear wheels as well.

Any tire under a ~300 treadwear is sticky enough to pick up road debris.

Michelin's here as well. The dirt road up to my cottage is approx ~20kms and all crushed stone. Stones fly left & right with the Michelin's and Pirelli's on my previous X3 as well

Thanks for the feedback. I've always had summer only tires as I lived in Florida and Southern California but never experienced this degree of tire kick up before.

It's worse in the northeast because the street are full of sand and gravel from potholes.

Having the same issues.. Seems like side skirts are pelted with little rock chips already and not even 1500 miles on clock.

Would mudflaps / splashguards work to prevent paint damage?
What is recommended for the X4MC? Is it the same as for the X3M?

Yes they will - I've installed the on all my cars and they help a ton. I'm not sure if these will fix the X4MC, but check my thread.
