Is there a way to lock the key-fob in the car?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to secure my car (and electronic key fob) while going sailing. I've thought about a lock box I can secure to the outside of the car, but the proximity to the vehicle would trigger an unlock if someone grabbed the door handle. I do have comfort access so presumably I could take the key card with me if I could disable the fob temporarily

Any thoughts?

Isn't the key card intended for these types of situations where you don't want to get the fob wet? I'm not sure why you'd need to take both the fob and the key card when the card can take its place for all car functions.

I used to use a bag like this when I did Turo; customer would put key in bag and lock the door manually and close...Blocks the key signal.

The car knows if the keyfob is IN the car. As far as I know, if you lock the car with another fob while there is a fob in the car, the car can't use the inside fob to open the doors. There must be a second fob outside the car to open the door.

You can pick up a small dry bag. I'm a kayaker and just keep the key in my pocket when I'm wearing my dry suit but switch to a drybag when the water is warmer.

Are the new cars different? I have a E92 and lock the key fob in there all the time when I do a open water swim at the lake. I remove the key from the key fob, place the key fob in the drivers door, then manually lock the car with the key. I have had the alarm go off a couple times while unlocking it, but 95% of the time it works without the alarm going off.
Please let me know if this works, I may reconsider buying a G20 if I can't remove the key and lock the door. Doesn't the new car have a proximity that you can turn off?

What do you do with your cell phone?

Whatever your solution...do that for your keys?

Leave the fob at home use the card key and lock your phone in the car.

I read somewhere the other day that there's a couple of dead spots inside the car where it doesn't detect the key fob (like the glove compartment). I haven't personally tested but worth trying. Otherwise faraday bags would work to block the signal like others mentioned.

You can leave in center console and use the app to lock your car. It works well and doesn't unlock if someone touches your door. Works for me in the past when I work out

So, I found out by accident that it is possible. I left the key in the interior door handle and closed the door. Thinking the key was in my pocket, I touched the external handle and the door locked. Later, I went to unlock the car and it would not work. A brief search later, I realized that the key was inside the car. Luckily, I had the credit card sized electronic key in my wallet so I was able to unlock the door. My guess, the interior door handle is in a grey zone that will sometimes allow you to lock the door with the key inside. I have yet to try it but my guess is that it is possible to lock the key inside (in a hidden location) by using the credit card style e-key.

I suspect your E92 doesn't have comfort access.

I turn off the car put the key in the center armrest then use the Digital Key to lock the doors. Once back to the car i use the digital key to unlock the car then I believe I had to lock unlock the car to allow the fob to work. I do it at car meets so the car does not lock and unlock every time I get near it. and then its stays locked.

Yes it does. I just tested this again. Key fob in the door, lock the car manually with the key (alarm beep occurs) and you can not open the door by touching the door handle and trying to pull it open.

I just took my wife's 535d in for service an have a G20 330i loaner car. Just did the test that I use on my car and it works. Take the key out of the fob, place the fob in the drivers door and manually lock the car with the key. I turned off proximity before trying this. It works, I could not unlock the car with the handle, I had to manually unlock it with the key first. The only bad part is you need to remove the plastic key cover and I needed a very small screwdriver to pop it out, looks ugly when it's removed.
