cool tech. i'd still go with ceramics for a street car though since they will last the lifetime of the vehicle in most cases.
anyone who regularly tracks (and is not a multimillionaire) will tell you to just go with steel rotors.

Typical VW group nonsense, providing an answer for a question nobody asked. Just want to shove more "innovations" down the customers throats to charge more money.

actually the best part of these brakes they dont fade under repetitive hard braking.. i guess it was in this video as well.. its like a "cheap" alternative to ceramic brakes but i believe Porsche went for such a thing for making all their non ceramic brakes like this one day.. one way or another it ll get cheaper..

It's an option. No one is forcing you to check the box.

whatever, we agree to disagree. I thought that competition usually drives innovation. And yes, having "proprietary" brake rotors the aftermarket will not replicate soon is a money grab. This technology is only somewhat better than what's available (actually, it was mentioned that cheaper alternatives which work just the same exist) but it does make life a bit more difficult. Probably the only real benefit is that it helps to keep the wheels cleaner. And yes, VW Group likes to reinvent things which they then like to beta-test in production cars.

You realize this is called "research and development", right? What they charge a premium for now to high-end customers willing to pay are what will fund continued development to eventually make it down to everyone else.

Don't get me wrong I'm not a Porsche basher.. I love the Panamera. It's just that the Cayenne looks like a picture of a Panamera that someone stretched asymmetrically.
