Chirping Noise? Any Ideas!

Hi all. So hopefully I can describe this issue so it makes sense.

Recently every morning there is this slight chirping sound that can be heard inside the car. It literally sounds like a cricket is in the car. Sometimes it's barely noticeable and sometimes its a little louder (passenger can hear it). I've ruled out the possibility of it being a rattle because it instantly goes away when the engine reaches operating temp. The noise does not happen for the rest of the day (no matter how many times the car is started). Even if the car sits off for the rest of the day and is "cold started" again that same day the sound is not there. But, every morning the sound is present until operating temp (it's also not a constant chirping sound, it's intermittent until operating temp).

So what could this possibly be?! I'm easily able to live with it because it take 4-5 minutes to reach operating temp and the noise to go away but it's driving me crazy to know what the sound could be.

Any ideas?

Could it be related to the fan speed of the AC/ventilation? If you hear it when the fan is on, try increasing the speed to see if the chirping/cricket sound goes away. If it is not the fan, I have no idea.

Are you sure it's coming from inside? Could be the HPFP.

It's not related to fan speed from what I can tell!

I'm not sure where exactly it's coming from. All I know is I can hear it inside the cabin. Its very possible it could be coming from under the hood I just have no idea from where.

I know what you are talking about. It’s the transmission. It’s just how it sounds when it cold. I hear the same thing. No issues so far and 11500 miles so far.

Ohhh really? I guess that would make slight sense with it going away when the engine (therefore the transmission) reaches running temp. Can you pinpoint where exactly the sound is the loudest to you? I swear it comes from the drivers dash area!

It could be a cricket in the car. Very possible.

Did you check the exhaust? When you start the car play with the pipes and see if there is a change.

It's normal. My 2020 Z4 and 2020 X3 have the chirp as well. Once warmed up and the idle drops, it goes away.

Awesome. Glad to hear it's normal. I'm sure most people don't even notice it at all. A select few of us have sensitive ears it seems haha

I just purchased a ‘20 M340i last week and have the same issue. It doesn’t sound normal to me and seems to originate from the gauge cluster, steering column, or somewhere underneath those items. As with exhibhooligam mine is mainly noticeable in the first 5-10 min of the car being started and occurs mainly at speeds under 50 when the engine is in a lower rpm range. Here is a video of it taken from another thread on this forum:

Is that audio feedback from in-car microphone back to dash speaker?

I have no idea if that is the case, nor how to improve.

It’s definitely not audio feedback from the center speaker. It really ‘seems’ as if it is coming from the digital gauge display, but only occurs at certain lower rpms like that frequency is causing the sound. Strange that it goes away after 10 min or so...maybe the engine has smoothed out more after warming up, or maybe the display itself needs to ‘warm up’?!? I’ve tried pressing various areas on and around the display in an attempt to identify the source of the the sound but so far haven’t been able to.

Has anyone gotten a solution to this problem. I recently got a brand new g20 from the factory and this issue began about 10 days after I received the car. It is genuinely driving me crazy. The chirping noise occurs at speeds between 25mph and 70mph and only when I'm accelerating. Oddly though, it only starts after the engine has been on for about 30 minutes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've taken the car to the dealer and they said they'd investigate and get back to me.

Could it be the center speaker rattle? A fix in the DIY forum: M340i Center Speaker Rattle Fix Instructions (with pics) https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1652142

I don't think its the centre speaker, the chirping noise is isolated to the left speaker in the left door. Is it possible that the speaker in the door could have the same issue as the centre speaker?

Literally just had this fixed in my car 2021 3 series, they replaced the steering column to fix it. Definitely not from speakers or trim, noise was chirping from around steering wheel.
