I知 considering an M4 xDrive, what do you think?
Hi guys,
I am very close to signing for a new M4 to replace my F83. The dealer really wants to make the deal so they proposed buying my car back at €10k over the lease price which is really good. Anyway, the dealer tells me that I can order xDrive the first week of April. The cost here in Belgium is €4K without VAT (€4.800 total). It rains 200 days per year here (yeah, not joking), and the road are usually shitty (but we do have a lot of nice places to drive). With the F83, the grip is ok, but on rainy days I need to be careful not to spin the tires too much (even though I don't drive crazy when it’s wet). I wonder if the CO2 level and the weight will not go up by a lot (no info on this yet). What do you guys think will you take it? And why or why not ? Thanks! |

I will go for AWD because where I live, when it's snowing, I cannot come back home with a RWD...And AWD is an extra security for rainy days like today ;-)

I'm going for an AWD M3 because of the extra grip in 1st & 2nd. It doesn't snow much but it rains a lot where I live, but that's not an issue for me as I don't plan to drive the M3 in the rain anyway. It'll be kept nice & clean and will be my daily as long as the weather is nice.
I'm almost sure the driving dynamics will be just fine but I expect it to be slightly less fun than the RWD on twisty roads, but should be more fun in normal spirited driving if it doesnt spin the wheels every time you smash it in 2nd & 3rd specially when modified. So far the G8x reviews are showing good traction behavior versus the F8x so it looks like RWD buyers will be just fine.

Yes. Rainy location = AWD for me. So much more enjoyable when the road grip is poor the vast majority of the year. We also get some snow so that's another reason for me but the rain is the main reason. For EU I doubt the emissions will be that much different, but who knows.

It rained about 10 days here last year and I'm still getting an awd model
I want it for road trips I plan to do places like Tahoe, Yosemite etc which all have heavy snow and mountains. Yea a rwd with snow tires > awd with all seasons but I plan to go awd + winter wheels/tires for those trips so I can avoid chains. Also the launch is going to be phenomenal and I plan to buy so I will be modding eventually and would like to use the eventual power, as the X3M is easily hitting 700bhp; that's a no go in rwd.

I'm planning to get the RWD model mainly because it hardly rains here and I find RWD to be a bit more fun. Anytime the weather is bad or I go up to the mountains I'll take my Wrangler. I would get the X-Drive if it rains frequently to enjoy the car year round.

For CO2 check the M340i RWD vs AWD should be the same difference. Weight add on the AWD is not revealed but should be just over 100 lbs if it like other new BMWs.
What I think? Wait for the AWD and see how it compares. BMWs Xdrive cars behave very well and feel nothing like understeery Audis. Last edited by solstice; 03-18-2021 at 02:16 AM.. |
