I live in Hong Kong. The retail price here to get a brand new M2CS is HKD 1,468,000. This is equivalent to around USD 189,000. This is a lot of money so I really need some serious advice before pulling any trigger.
All MT ones have been sold except 1 that comes with 125km (around 78miles) on the odometer. As claimed by BMW Hong Kong, all the kms on the car were done by BMW AG in Gemany due to some QC tests that the car needed to go through at the factory. This doesn't sound normal as I have never seen cars marketed as new were packaged with over 30miles on the clock except this one. Of course I questioned them but what I could get from them would be a letter issued by BMW Hong Kong to state none of the kms were done within Hong Kong. I think I would never be able to know if there had been QC tests or not in the first place. I really want to have the car but this is the only thing that is keeping me from doing so. What else could I do? |

I keep on thinking whether the car had been test driven before at the dealership in Germany as a demo car. This starts making me think if I should not proceed with the deal (I had already put appx USD 5k as non-refundable deposit on it before knowing anything) and go for a nicely used 981 Cayman GT4 with some cash left in the pocket.

Hello my HK brother! I was just at the showroom today, are you looking at the CS in Misano Blue? They don't really offer them for test drives that I know of so its kind of weird that it's racked up so many kms. That's like driving to shenzhen and back twice. They could have offered maybe VIP clients test drives in this particular car or something?
If I were you I'd press them on this and try to get a bit of a better price or maybe more freebies thrown in. I'd also ask to inspect the car and look for any signs of wear like potential rock chips, a bunch of road grime under the side skirts and so on. Beyond this I'm not sure what else you can do. I'd say if there isn't anything extremely out of the ordinary you should just buy it as it will hold its value extremely well relative to the average new car in HK I suspect. Also $5k deposit isn't chump change. I inquired about the car just today, they were still selling it so it's definitely not on hold or anything so it's probably going to go soon. Anyways it's exciting to see someone else from HK here! Let us know how it goes with the dealership! |

You could ask for an extended warranty at no cost. It is a paid for option they may throw on. In Australia the second year F80 M3 received a price drop. I complained to BMW Australia and they gave me a free extended warranty and service plan to ease the pain of my higher cost first year F80 which received an extra depreciation hit due to their price drop.

Btw you were right I have reserved the one in MB with a manual gearbox. I have put down the deposit on Sat and the car is being held under my name for the next 30 days. I am quite shocked when you said it isn't on hold!! OMG |

if you are going to drive it, don’t worry about it as kilometers will go up anyway.
If you are buying to store as collector buy it also . Buy it ASAP it’s the evo COTY for good reason

I was told there were 3 in their inventory, 2 with DCT and 1 with MT. Seems like someone has taken 1 of the DCTs.

There are high chances that I will take it cuz the car is the last one available as "brand new". Definitely a no brainer if it doesn't come with the number of miles..

Don’t let this opportunity slip away just for a measly 100 miles. The moment you back out, it’s sold to the next person in line. This happened to me on 3 cars I was dead set in buying because I was indecisive before finding my M2 CS which in my case it worked out.
I definitely would ask the dealer for some freebies. Ask for extended warranty or a full PPF or M perf exhaust. They’re making a sale off of you after all.

Yep, definitely ask for freebies. If they give you some parts or extended warranty this more than makes up for whatever value you're potentially losing from 100 miles.

The price of a used CS is the same as a price of a new CS
It really is a no brainer. Get the car. Just don’t pass on the opportunity to snag some freebies

No one is going to mention the $189,000 USD price tag?
Cars must be VERY expensive in HK.

Also, did I read that wrong or did you say the GT4 is cheaper in HK? It's a good $20-25K more expensive in the US. The CS is a better all around daily and maybe a more special car to many, but the GT4 is great as well. After owning the CS for 3 months, I wouldn't hesitate to pay full MSRP with 100 miles on it. Especially a 6MT. You can't get a used CS for MSRP here. |

If a car sustains minor damage pre-delivery, it's repaired (and fast, normally in a proper way). Usually the customer won't be informed about it. Even serious hail damage gets sorted out, but that's usually reported to the customer (though the car manufacturer will refrain from disclosing the specifics of how bad the damage was). Of course it's guessing what could explain the extra miles piled on, but the QC reference could be a hint that the car needed repairs at a workshop after a mishap during transport and afterwards possibly some road testing to check whether everything has been properly repaired. Not saying that the car was damaged, but it's a possibility. Normally documentation exists, but it can be doubted whether it will be disclosed what has exactly happened. Feel free to check the paint thickness (it's easy to find an automotive paint meter). If you discover paint irregularities, then that's a tell-tale sign that the car got damaged and was repaired pre-delivery. Could be ranging from a simple scratch or a small dent, to the car being rear-ended or hitting a wall or another car whilst parking or during transport. A lot could happen between leaving the factory and taking delivery.
