External GPS placement
Where in the car are you placing your RaceBox Mini or whatever external GPS module you happen to be pairing with your preferred laptimer app?
The center dash grille on my G01 is metal and thus suitable for hassle-free magnetic attachment, but the G80 is plastic - so that's a no-go. I see that the rear speakers by the deck lid are metal, but I imagine you want the thing centered so that really only leaves the hard surface of centre child restraint tether cover as a low-stakes option. Of course I could just use 3M adhesive backed Velcro on the dash, but I'm not sure that would age well. Looking for the simple and elegant solution that I overlooked ... |

i designed to mount to go onto a RAM mount suction cup, which i then have a gopro mounted to. this let me mount 2 items with one suction cup, keeping more of my view clear out the front windshield. uses 4 earth magnets embedded in the bottom of the mount with the magnets in the racebox mini to hold it in tight.
racebox mini also has a standard 1/4-20 tripod screw hole you could easily do something similar without a custom 3d printed mount |

since the racebox mini has the 1/4-20 thread, you could just do something like https://smile.amazon.com/Walway-Suct.../dp/B076XZ9JN7 .. if you wanted a suction cup type solution. admittedly, having some sort of metal on the front or rear dash where the racebox mini can lay flat and out of the way seems ideal though

Thanks - that would work as a low commitment plan until I finalize a setup!
I just discovered 3M Command adhesive picture hanging strips seem to exist in black, so I might go down that rabbit hole for a bit .. |

Sidebar PSA here:
I was in the App Store buying RaceChrono Pro and noticed that Dragy has launched a free laptimer app of their own. Having left it too late to get Racebox Mini before my track day, and knowing my iPhone is like 1 HZ, I'd painted myself into a bit of a corner. So like an idiot, I thought: “Oh, neat - 3D map, predictive timing, splits laps - those all sound like reasonable hand drawn facsimiles of a functional lap timer. I ALREADY own one of these things. And since it’s 10 HZ why not give it a whirl, right?” No need to describe the myriad ways in which it failed me spectacularly, but suffice it to say that it’s a dumpster fire of an app. In both frustrating but also comically amusing ways. You have been warned. |

I just use some "tough and clear" double sided gorilla tape and stick it on the center speaker. Strong enough for high G corners, but weak enough to just rip off at the end of the day. Holds up in the heat too.

It probably does, but I'm going to need someone else to use it for a blazing hot summer and then remove it cleanly without ripping up the dash or leaving gross residue before I'm ready to chance it.

My biggest concern is the GPS was not as accurate as I had hoped. Have any of you faced that issue? |

Held up for a day, but since I remove mine after each track day, the tape became dirty and useless. The Gorilla double sided comes in a roll, so I just replace it if it loses tackiness.
