Upgrading to iDrive 8

Could anyone point me in the direction of a reputable source who could remotely upgrade my iDrive to the latest/greatest.

If you're in a G12 running ID6 there's no possible way to use ID8 as it utilizes completely different hardware.

Thank you, I have a 2017 750i so if I'm reading you correct, I can't upgrade to iDrive 8 due to hardware differences

2017 can't be upgraded to ID7, either; ID6 is all it can do.

Installation and wiring myself - I ordered MGU with all FSC and KOMBI from Europe
Installation is easy you have to eliminate MOST connections and add one module RAM
Central display is plug and play and you can do this on ID6 also

How much was the MGU? What website did you order from?
Any issues since the upgrade? Has this affected your car service at the dealership in anyway?

Cost for HU MGU with all FSC plus FSC for carplay and live time cockpit (KOMBI3) around $2,5k-$3k but don't remember exactly, it was a while ago. After installation they doing remote programing. Car driving with out any issue. I'm doing all of the services my self - I think if you will take the car to the dealership and if they will be doing programing, it's can do the mess in the system.

Thank you for the information. Are all functions actually working as they should? As far as I know, MGU comes with different wiring and also different KAFAS camera and windshield to facilitate it, newer ATM module and other things.

Everything working fine
Didnt replace KAFAS and ATM still the same
MGU has fdl to setup atm1 or atm2
Didn’t do anything with kafas
I have CAFD for KOMBI with fdl - it was few parameters to change
Wiring is almost the same
You have to add RAM, I believe I add 7 extra wires from the front to the back
Overall it’s easy retrofit 😀

Would this work with the BMW I8??

I don’t mind purchasing all the hardware necessary…

But I would love to get the digital cockpit, and iDrive8 retrofitted into a 2015 bmw i8.. I hate the current system…

Even if I had the 2020 I8, I would still want to change the gauge cluster/screen with the virtual digital cockpit version…

Every time I look at my gauge cluster I think I’m driving a Chevy volt… it so ugly!!
