Extended warranty

I'm picking up my g87 on Friday and they aren't able to find how much the prices are for the extended warranties.

Is anyone else having this issue, anybody going to buy an extended warranty?
I was thinking of gettting the 7 year 100,000 miles.

They said you have to buy the warranty when you buy the car for M cars.

Thanks,

David

Good question. I know these things are negotiable so I was going to see what my dealer was willing to do. Going to use the "you're whacking me for MSRP, give me a good deal on warranty" type of thing. :P

Extended Warranty

We bought an X5 in 2021. The message board for X5's had a posting about getting a BMW extended warranty from a dealership in CA because it was much cheaper. I don't remember the numbers exactly, but the quote I received for the 100,000 mile warranty was around $800 (from the dealership in CA) while my dealership wanted to charge around $1400. I showed this to the finance person at my dealership and asked if he could match it. After a lot of wrangling, he finally matched it. I suggest doing the same, but make sure that you get the original quote in writing and make sure that it has the details of the extended warranty (i.e. that it is an original BMW warranty and it is the platinum extended warranty).

It was my understanding that the powertrain extended warranty was between $5000 to $7000.

Here is the link to the X5 board that discusses the BMW platinum warranty and the dealership that offers it for a cheaper price.

What Dealership are you using in Dallas?

I see that you are located in Dallas. I am too. Which dealership are you using? I am using BMW of Dallas. I have bought all of my BMW's from them. I was told that I am one of the first people on the waiting list, but they are also telling me that production won't start until August.

What do you think? That seems inconsistent with what people are saying on this board.

Yeah.... That's as much of most potential repairs, so you are just pre-paying for something you will maybe/maybe not need.

Waste of money, especially if you plan to do mods. It's how the dealership makes some extra profit. Put that money into savings instead and take it to a reputable independent mechanic who specializes in German cars when you do get the problems in 5-10 years.

I ended up getting the 7 year / 70,000 extended warranty (platinum pnp for ~$4500) and the ultimate care + for 3 years / 36000 ($1500) which can be extended. Why cheap out on such an expensive car? I came from a 135i that I purchased with 45k miles and glad I got the extended warranty on that. The warranty is transferable to a new owner if you sell it (which I don't plan to). I think it's something you'll regret when you see a nice bill when something happens right at 50001 miles. German mechanics won't be able to repair your digital dash, they'll replace it and who knows how much that is. I contemplated ever owning a BMW without a warranty after my $1800 bill for fuel injectors.

I'm almost 40 years old, and don't have time to be without a car for a whole summer, while it sits in a waiting list at a performance shop (buddies C7 Vette and another CTS-V). You either pay now or later. This is a BMW we're talking about here, and not just a used 1 series. Let me know if you want any more details on my warranty.

Curious why you did the "ultimate care +"? Since the car includes 3 years of scheduled maintenance, is it just to cover brakes and wipers?

Around zero is my bet, well maybe a few for teenagers but BMW probably finds a way to decline those.

You all are right that I won’t need it within the first 3 years / 36000 miles, but I got it simply because you can renew / extend it.

It just adds those three additional items to the complimentary (built into MSRP) 3 year maintenance. You can add the Plus package or extend the length at any point before the end of the 3 year term.

You don't have to get A BMW extended warranty. My dealership sells Zurich warranties which are good and mirror the factory warranty. Better yet is that they don't differentiate between a 230 and M2, so you can get one for pretty cheap. At least that's what my finance manager told me.

I haven't decided on the maintenance plan yet. I'm likely skipping it, but I think it could be worth it after 7 years and maxed miles. The most expensive item will be brakes and clutch. I've heard the clutch will last forever, but I bet the brakes with drilled rotors are expensive to replace. And I'm not sure how long they will last. The plan could pay for itself on a high milage car.

I skipped the maintenance plan when I bought the car.

I think if you use it as a driver and don’t track it then likely no real concerns about excessive maintenance. If you track it then that is the cost to play.

Speaking on brake rotors, with these beefy things I find it unlikely you’ll warp them in regular driving, only likely at the track. Since I’m not tracking I figured 7 years would just be fluids and 1 set of brake pads (ok, maybe 2 the way these things are dusting themselves off).

Now, extended warranty is a different thing altogether. I didn’t add anything here either, electronics are really my only big worry. But this is something that can be bought off the market in the next 3 years.
