What About Sunroof Rattles Any Issues

My build could get scheduled and locked in at any time and I'm seeing mentions of sunroof rattles with BMW being a potential issue? I know the G87 is too new to say, but has this been an issue in more recent cars? Any 2 series specific experiences?

I guess I am concerned that if the M2 has a stiffer suspension that it would be more prone to rattles generally speaking.

The sunroof should not rattle on any new car, regardless of the model. If it does, it would be an obvious factory defect.

I have a 23 G42 M240 and no rattling from the sunroof. My G87 has cf roof and while I haven't driven it yet, I can guarantee it will not rattle.

I've only owned one vehicle with a sunroof and it (and the car in general) doesn't rattle. My Ford Mustang had a few random rattles that came and went from new through nearly 5 years of ownership. Not as bad as some might make it out to be though. Minor. I seem to always hear the Youtube reviewers remark about German automotive brands being associated with interior rattles too. Audi, Mercedes, not just more affordable brands.

I've seen a few mentions of BMW new car quality satisfaction or some similar quality survey ranking BMW at the top. Rivaling some surprising competition. So, I guess I had a pretty relaxed attitude toward the sunroof.

I can't imagine a sunroof in my Mustang PP1 with that stiff suspension though. Magneride or not. I bet it would have been the source of constant irritation. It's tempting to opt for the carbon fiber roof and skip finding out if the sunroof would have been a big headache with the M2's stiff suspension.

No rattle in my E90 sunroof and it's 12 years old now.

No rattle in my G87 sunroof in the 3400 miles I've driven it.

I’m really hoping this car is as close to solid as my 992.

None on my 2008 E90 either. Hoping the G87 will be solid as well.

Rattling sunroof - topic belongs in the VW forums, they are notorious for it. Never had a rattly one in any of my BMWs over the years.

No owned a BMW with a sunroof but.....every other car I have owned with a sunroof (3 of them) has been prone to rattles and squeaks. A sudden change in temperature only made them worse still.

These days I avoid a sunroof like I avoid the plague.....and also enjoy the extra headroom and weight reduction.

Look like there is some straying off topic on some of the replies. The OP as about the sunroof rattling, not rattling, creaks and squeaks in general.

If talking about noises in general...my B9 S5 coupe, as I stated, sunfoor has no rattling but it does have some noises coming from the driver door panel. My '19 S3 made no noises whatsoever.

I have been refusing to conform to any particular 'spec' that doesn't adhere to other's definition of what the M2 should be; manual, etc. I was considering my build to be more of a mini GT to take me to the roads that I love driving in neighboring states. Not a $70k+ track car.

I will probably never track this car. Not particularly because I think I might crash it, but I would be paranoid that somebody else might hit me at a high rate of speed. Maybe I've seen too many Youtube videos of Pagani multi-million dollar works of art (and similar) being destroyed by an overeager driver on track day.

I have to confess though that from a resale perspective I can understand that it might limit the prospective interested buyers if they are taller and wish to track the car with a helmet on. I know I gathered that was why Mustangs don't have a sunroof too. Headroom for helmets.

It does pain me to give up the sunroof and have to pay a premium for what is included in the base price in other markets. I'm also concerned about the potential liability of repairs to a carbon fiber roof, but that may be a pretty remote possibility. I hope.

I put the request in for my salesperson to change my order to option the carbon roof. It is sort of a bummer. I sat in a M240i on the showroom floor that I'm sure has the exact same sunroof and it's pretty spectacular. It's big. Sort of cool that it has a power shade too.

Thanks to everyone for your quick responses. I almost had an anxiety attack that I haven't fully considered potential pitfalls of the sunroof. I'm sure it would be solid based on the consensus of opinions here.

22 M240 - zero sunroof issues
23 M2 - zero sunroof issues.

If it does rattle at some point. I will have it fixed. I like the light and air. Its a car. They do rattle at times in various parts/areas.
