JAG XF - old mans car?

I really fancy one of these next, ideally the XF-s Soot Chucker. Soon as they are £30k which shouldnt be too long.

Followed one on the local autobahn recently and it was nearly as quick as my 335i. Well impressive.

However, its a Jag, and when I mention it to some collegues, friends etc, they all say its an old mans car.

What do you think?

And before any says dont worry about what other people think about our choioces, 99% of us do. And i'm 38, so to some of you I'll be an old bastard anyway. Dont act it though

Definitely have the old man image attached. No idea how competent a car it is though, the bulk of it makes think it'll be a little boaty...especially compared to your 335.

No. It's NOT an old man's car, that is complete bollocks!!

The interior shows Audi and company where to go, the ride/handling compromise shows BMW up, and the exterior shape of the car is hardly old man.

Bollocks, bollocks, bollocks!

Ignore everyone who says they're an old mans car.

They ARE an old mans car.

There, now you've ignored that, listen to me.

I came to within a hairs whisker of pulling the trigger on a new (and very heavily discounted) XFR before I bought my current C63. It was a fabulous car and undoubtedly a 'better' car than the C63. In fact, I actually agreed to buy the one in the showroom but was just waiting for a final decision on whether my old black C63 was sold. Indeed, if I had sold that car just 2 days earlier, I would now be driving around in an XFR! Well, actually no I wouldn't as I'd have sold it by now

Unfortunately (for the Jag dealer), I never went back as three things kept me with the Merc...the seats (the Jag seats are clearly made to accommodate very large people), the engine sound and the fact that the C63 is less of an old mans car!

Can't deny the fact that it was an incredible car to drive and I believe the diesels are just as impressive as the R's!

I don't care how fast it is. How well it handles. Its for 45+ year old men with hair who work for a large corporate company who take clients out for lunch.

I parked next to one on Saturday in Boroughbridge and had a good look around it. I like them Paul and you can spec. aluminium/piano black/black leather/carbon fibre etc so no need for the old man wood thing.

I can see why some still see them as an old mans car in some ways as us brits are always a bit slow to change imo, but for me I really do think that 'image' is diminishing, and when I see one on the road, as you do see more and more now, I never think 'old mans car' tbh, I just notice them because they are 'eye catching' imo.

Jason (jmbmw) is getting on isn't he.

Shame you couldn't get that XKR I had a play in........bit of a beast!!

Image can't be that big a factor in your decision making process as you have already bought a BMW.

I had already bought 2 Jags before I was 40. Teenies will trot out the old man moniker, everyone else warms to them.

Got a surprising amount of positive, smiling compliments from the Ladies as I whisked them silently home ...... cue best Leslie Philips wink.

yeah i agree with all above, they are an old mans car. but that said, they are a bloody nice old mans car! modern styling and gorgeous interior, i was looking at these too when i got my 3. just decided that they were a bit too big for me right now, would have been quite happy to have one though. not pretending that im young any more

Look at the 650i and the XKR, I know which one I'd rather have.

Before I ordered my 320D M-Sport I had a test drive of an XF.
It is really nice to drive. Quite & smooth and surprisingly agile on the bends and v. nice inside.
I did feel though, I was a Mr Big and it is a big motor and I did'nt feel that it was the sort of car for nipping down to Sainsbury, parking and all that etc.
which my motor has to do.
I am very happy with what I went for and pleased that I did!

I spent months trying to pick up this Chartered Accountant from Hong Kong a few years back. Months and months, trips to HK (OK I was living in Beijing at the time so it was only a short flight), calling her up blah blah blah. Ultimately I failed, although I did get an invite to her wedding some time later which was a lavish affair in the HK Exhibition Centre on Victoria Harbour - same place where the handover took place in 1997.

Anyway one time we were talking about cars and my idea to buy a new Jaguar.

"Only old men drive Jaguars" was her response.

At 15 I desperately cared what other people thought, at 39 I don't give a flying one.

I've just bought a Skoda Octavia because I've given up work and I've got a baby on the way, I've driven 40k cars, now I'm driving a 17k one, and I actually love it. If the neighbours think I've fallen on hard times then so be it, for gods sake BUY THE CAR YOU WANT!!!

Paul, it is a bit old-man yeah, but better image and cooler than a 3er IMO.

I spend a lot of time in one, and love the ride and balance. BUT it does feel a big car and without the adaptive suspension there is a lot of body roll. Engine is very hushed, nice v6 growl and pulls like a train.

My other issue is the interior - now that is old man with Walnut burr trim and comfy seats (read not supportive at all).

The latest XF-S' come with the XFR interior which makes is more modern with much better sport seats (adjustable side bolsters like the MSports)

This was an option on older cars (called Dymaic pack I think), may be worth looking out

Allow me to reciprocate by sorting your sorting. Try using "grannies". Better grammar.

It is a good point you raise. I have transported elderly people in the Jag with ease and comfort. My E92's RFT Sport ride is frankly embarrassing in comparison, as old and young alike brace themselves, and grit their teeth when a pothole looms.

Grace, Space, Pace .... as they say.

No way is it cooler than a 3er. Cooler to a 60 year old. Well not cool as OAP'z don't do cool they do relaxed and luke warm.
