Fabio Capello resignation

The Football Association can confirm that Fabio Capello has today resigned as England Manager.

This follows a meeting involving FA Chairman David Bernstein, FA General Secretary Alex Horne and Fabio Capello at Wembley Stadium.

The discussions focused on The FA Board’s decision to remove the England team captaincy from John Terry, and Fabio Capello’s response through an Italian broadcast interview.

Fabio Capello resignation
Wednesday, 08 February, 2012

In a meeting for over an hour, Fabio’s resignation was accepted and he will leave the post of England Manager with immediate effect.

David Bernstein said: “I would like to stress that during today’s meeting and throughout his time as England Manager, Fabio has conducted himself in an extremely professional manner. We have accepted Fabio’s resignation, agreeing this is the right decision. We would like to thank Fabio for his work with the England team and wish him every success in the future.”

A media conference with David Bernstein and the Club England Management team will take place at Wembley on Thursday at 12 noon.

The FA will not be making any further comment until the media conference.

I think he has performed well under the circumstances, and wish him well for his support of the England Captain john Terry.

so how fast can we get harry out of his contract at West Ham ?? Crap I mean Spurs :-)

or has anyone else got a candidate in mind?

John Terry is not worth throwing away your job for. Terry is a disgrace, an overpaid thug, what did Capello think the FA should have done other than strip him of his captaincy as a bare minimum.

Maybe Capello used this as an excuse to get out, a cause célčbre, instead of being responsible for another massively underwhelming England performance this summer.

er, he's at Spurs........
Anyway, Capello underachieved and had to go.
I'm a Portsmouth fan and Harry was an inspiration down here, both times he managed us. If anyone can lift England's players to finally deliver what they should be capable of........it's Harry.

Harry will manage Spurs/England (each, 50:50 or something) part time until May, then take charge of England full time, in my view. Bring it on!

Mike.

You may well be right and I may well be biased but we now need to look for a new Manager to take us to and win the next world Cup.

Vote in the poll and lets see who is right.
Thanks for the comments. Kev.

and yes, Blue is the colour.

I think Capello genuinely believes "innocent until proven guilty"......or if he doesn't then your second paragraph may well be true, very astute of Fabio if so.
I mean, he's either highly principled, or highly aware of what's coming this Summer with him in charge. Is he highly aware that he's a crap England manager?

Mike.

Well said Peter
John Terry is one of those footballers that everybody hates, he is an absolute disgrace.

Capello leaving his post is good news, I still can't get my head around some of the decisions he made during the last WC.
With Harry Redknapp being cleared for tax evasion i'd be worried if i was a TH fan.

Poisoned chalice the England job.
If Redknapp gets the job the media will soon turn on him if he flops at the Euros.
Plus he'll make no money on dodgy transfers.

Can there be an option for ' who gives a shit?' .

Terry is clearly guilty, it's on camera FFS. Going to court is a formality, I don't even think you have to be a lip reader to see the filth that was coming from his mouth. There is no mitigation that can be presented by his hugely expensive legal team which should keep him from being banned from playing for England again at the very least, maybe even a spot of bird. Oafs like him, should at least set an example to the football following masses.

As for Capello, I suspect he will not be living in penury in his retirement. As someone has said, the England job is a poison chalice and I cannot see England doing anything but underperform at the Euro championships.

he just failed to prepare for the tournament appropriately, and failed to absorb the english way (whatever that is) and he should have gone after the world cup - funny how the FA have the balls to stand up to him now, with only a couple of months left on his contract!
he sided with the wrong player as well, who cares about John Terry anyway? the public see him as a hate figure anyway.
he was always going after the Euros anyway, this is just an excuse to not be accused of complete failure - the easy way out, whilst maintainng a reasonable record of results on paper.

for me, we have to have an englishman, but not nessecarily one that has managed to a set level (which is good because we dont have any over achievers!) so an ex player like Stuart Pearce or Alan Shearer as they understand the honour of playing for england, they have been around the set up for years, and they will command respect from the players.
id rather have Gary Neville than another overpaid foreigner (bold statement!)
its a different job to club management, so we dont need a club manager.

as a spurs fan, I would hate to see harry go but I think it inevitable. he could get us to the final I think, though a trophy might be pushing it.
he will offer a short term boost and uplift, but I dont think he will be the man to overhaul the english set up that we need.
but no doubt the media speculation to get him in the job will become massive, and they will turn just as quick when he doesnt deliver. so its a poison chalice, as already mentioned.

I don't think ENgland have ever 'under performed' as I keep reading and hearing.

They simply play to their ability which is NO where near enough to win any tournament.

Capello wants to keep his credibility so was a smart move to resign now and will get various offers from around the world!

Second vote for the "I don't give a fuck" option, over here.
I really do detest anything but "grass roots" level (pardon the pun) football.

I totally fail to understand how/why such a large percentage of the world can be captivated by such a boring sport played by teams of 11 individuals so extraordinarily stupid that I'd bet 90% of them couldn't spell professional footballer.

Every single one of your posts is like you've read my mind.

Football disgusts me mainly because every single game i've ever seen whether it be a youth team at the local pitch or an international match has involved at least one (usually a whole lot more) grown man acting like a spoiled brat who needs a slap.

Problem with the england team isnt the manager - its the shit players.

There are VERY few worldclass english players... regardless of manager, if you dont have the players there is only so much you can do.

Think this can be seen with the Euro's a few months away with absolutely no hype even prior to this week - thats because everyone (press included!) know we have zero hope in winning.
