replace rear spoiler tape with 3m?
the spoiler i got already comes with black double-sided tape on all 4 sides. not sure what kind of tape it is, but seems like a lot of you guys are using the 3M (Grey foam, red backing). My question is, should i replace them with 3M? if so how the hell do i remove the tape that's already on there? the black tape seems pretty much glued onto the spoiler.. thanks.

Agreed. Just because it is not 3M brand doesn't make it inferior. Unfortunately, you really don't know if is it is good enough. Just make sure you clean the area where the spoiler is going with alcohol . Also do it on a warm day or in a warm garage.

I just took my spoiler off, and re-mounted it with the 3M tape... and am very pleased. When I bought the car, it was pulling away from the deck lid, so I asked the dealer to repair it. Then when I drove the 3 hours to go back and take delivery... it looked even worse. So they did it a second time. Still wasn't happy. SO... I order the 3M tape myself... and the actual black glue from BavAuto.com. Used both last weekend to remount mine. Worked like a charm. It looks fabulous... and it has been super strong. I think the problem is finely corrected. Sometimes you just have to take things into your own hands. Good luck!!!

damn.. after installing it for about a day (with the black tape that came with the spoiler), the two sides of the spoiler started to lift from the trunk. there's now a half inch gap between the spoiler and the rear deck. lol.
but other than that, the spoiler seems to be fairly secure, not sure i can pull it off the car even if i wanted to at this point. should i just leave it on with the gap? will it cause problems later on? |
