Anyone ever tried DIY window tinting?

My car's already tinted, but I'm curious - how hard can it possibly be? I imagine it's not a hell of a lot different from vinyl wrapping; seems like a similar concept. Probably one of those things that's difficult and frustrating at first, but it's simply a matter of sticking with it and figuring out a method that works. Anyone ever taken a shot at it?

it is NOT like vinyl wrapping. but yes, like anything else, with practice anyone can eventually learn to do it easily. my friend used to own a stereo/tint shop and he makes it look super easy, but when actually trying to do it and have a clean result, that shit is way harder than it looks.

Just leave it to a reputable shop because they will warranty their work from any bubbles or peeling. If you made a mistake, it's not easy to remove like the vinyl. It will be very messy & might ruin the rear windshield defogger.

It's harder than vinyl wrapping, the material is much less forgiving. A friend owns a tint shop and he does a lot of dealership work. I've seen him work on my cars and it looks super easy, but when I played ith the material myself, it was much harder. The difference between a great job and terrible one is very tiny in window tinting.

not on a car, but me and my dad tinted the windows on the house a while back and it wasn't too hard, just needed a heat gun and patience.

when I get around to tinting my car...ill take it to the professionals though lol

I've done it, but not recently.
The shops do a great job and warranty their work.
I took mine to the local 3M guy; 4 hours later. Done.
