Today, BMW announced updates to the second generation of the successful BMW ALPINA B7 super-high performance luxury sedan with more performance, fresh design features, and improved efficiency. The new B7 is slated for a North American debut at the historic Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August and will go on-sale immediately thereafter. Pricing will be $127,600 (B7 Standard Wheelbase), $130,600 (B7 SWB with xDrive), $131,500 (B7 Long Wheelbase), and $134,500 (B7 LWB with xDrive). The new BMW ALPINA B7 has been enhanced in-line with updates to the 2013 BMW 7 Series Sedans including more power, more performance, and more efficiency. The new B7 features 40 additional horsepower (now rated 540 hp) and 22 lb-ft more torque (up to 538 from 516 lb-ft) thanks to the addition of BMW’s Valvetronic throttle-less intake technology and a new ALPINA 8- speed high performance transmission. Top speed is now a fierce 194 mph (drag-limited, 193 mph with xDrive), up from the previous 175 mph. Acceleration drops into the low-mid-4-second range for all variants (4.3-4.4 seconds). The BMW ALPINA B7 Sedan remains the benchmark in terms of luxurious performance, chassis technology, and hand-finished exclusivity. Each variant of the updated BMW ALPINA B7 (including Standard Wheelbase, Long Wheelbase, sDrive, and xDrive) will arrive with over 30 new parts which enhance the design and frontal aerodynamics to more effectively channel the cooling air required to manage the increased power output. New BMW kidney grilles, updated Xenon Adaptive headlights, LED front fog lights, and updated tail lights are also included. Other now-standard features will include ceramic secondary controls, engine Automatic Start-Stop, and the Active protection system. Optionally, the B7 Sedan will offer Full LED Headlights, Bang & Olufsen Surround Sound System, new exterior colors and interior upholstery choices in-line with the 7 Series update. Renewed BMW individual color and trim offerings complete the package. The appearance remains unmistakable on signature 21” ALPINA Classic 20-spoke wheels and stunning ALPINA Blue Metallic paint. The BMW ALPINA B7 is available as a special order vehicle with capacity-limited production underscoring its exclusivity. The B7’s body is manufactured in the BMW 7 Series factory (Plant Dingolfing) and hand-finished with the remaining ALPINA components at the ALPINA factory in Buchloe, Germany. This production sequence increases the production schedule by approximately two weeks. European Delivery at the BMW Welt delivery center is available for the BMW ALPINA B7. [/bpnews] |

That car isn't targeted towards a crowd such as yourself. B7 alpina is intended for people that have chauffeur's, are CEO's of fortune 500 company's and enjoy gentle, luxurious, comfortable ride. They could give a rats ass about a 3 series.

It is 128K starting price.
Comparing B7 and M5 is a bit unfair. It is like comparing a 3 series and 1 series. The B7 has more room for the CEO types. I wonder how much faster it is over 760i

I'll take the Twin Turbo V12 in the 760i over the B7 any day.

Getting a little ahead of yourself. I am merely pointing out the amount of money you would spend on a 7 series. But to your point, most people who would drop that kind of cash on a car that requires a driver pick up Rolls Royce or a Bentley. A BMW is meant to be driven hence the "ultimate driving machine" if you have to hire someone to drive it for you then maybe you should buy an S class. I don't agree with your statement just as much as you disagree with mine. But again, that's what this forum is all about.

A person who can afford a B7 wouldn't be caught dead in a 3 series even if it's a M3, hell half of them would snub their noses at a M5. I would say the B7 is like the S65, very rare and for a very niche buyer. |

generally speaking...
most CEOs don't have a driver. maybe in 80s. few that do, usually ride in S550 or in regular lincoln town car limo. look around NYC... B7 is for older, rich people who know cars and appreciate B7 for heritage. nobody drives them. they drive the car. ultra narrow niche market... 760/s550 are usually diplomats or ambassadors. 740/750 is for trophy wives married to CEOs, VPs, and various executives 5-series ...for sensible well off high middle class men 3-series ...30 year old young professionals rolls is for queen of england or just car collectors |

A whooping $135,000 for that thing? NO THANKS. I'd rather get an M3 and pimp it up with all the latest gears and what-nots on parts train (www.partstrain.com) I think that'd be a more... uh... practical approach in getting a luxury performance car.

All of these large sedans (750li), and even the expensive ones (760,and alpina models) can only strive to give you the illusion that you are driving a much smaller car. My 750li, as sweet as I think it is, is really a tank. All of the dynamic systems are to trick you into thinking you are driving a 3 series, yet with more room. Although the 750li is fun, and I am a gadget guy, so I have all of the gadgets, it is not the real deal. On the contrary, the 3 series and the x1 are the real deal. They don't need artificial means like the 750li combined with complex dampening systems to make you feel it. The 3 series and the x1 are natural beauties. The larger sedans are just fake. We love them, but it's just an illusion when compared to a 3 series or x1. |
