"Tire Insurance"
So the dealer attemped to sell me Tire insurance.
Basically - it replaces the tires if they are damaged, wear too quickly etc.. I chose to skip the "insurance". I get this coverage from Discount Tire usually - so for me it means that my first set is not covered. Anyone know what the tires on the E92 are running these days?

The standard tires are Michelin Pilot Sport 2. They run from a minimum of $250 to $400 each. They're not many better tires out there.

Does that mean that we can burn out the tires and get the next set for free through insurance? That would be awesome.

I bet there are most likely stipulations that void the warranty if abused. Their definition of "abused" might be different than yours. I'd read the fine print first. They usually only cover things like nails in the tire. Which probably costs less than $10 to plug. In fact, you can do it yourself. Big holes require replacement, but make sure the insurance covers this. Tire wear I've not heard of being covered.

Most of these are "negotiable" and I was wondering what your dealer offered you.

I think this is a good insurance to have.
I didn't have it for my prior 6-series, bent a rim, and paid 700-800 dollars to have the wheel and tire replaced (they were runflats on the 645Ci). I bought the tire insurance for my M5, got a flat 2 weeks after picking up the car and got the tire replaced. Well worth the cost, about 500 dollars and change for 4 years of coverage. The insurance covers whatever is on the car, does not have to be OEMs, and includes the wheel as well.

My girlfriend purchased it for her 328 coupe, I thought it was a bad purchase. But she had to use it right away as she got a flat on one of her runflats. The cheesy thing about the warranty is that you have to pay for the repairs out of pocket and then they reimburse you. But it was worth it because I think the total bill came out to $500.

You're correct, but I took it to my dealer so there was no out of pocket payment. They just took care of it.

I've had my Z4 since Sep' 06. Since then I've had 3 flats on the runfalts-each $400 to replace. I wish I had gotten the insurance from the dealer.
You never know when or if you'll need it but 1 tire these days is about enought to break even. |

Runflats a completely different story however---in terms of nail punctures, ease of rim damage, etc.----no? |

Wish they offered that here! I somehow bubbled one of my front tyre sidewalls and that set me back a fair bit. Sad part is, I'm pretty certain I never hit any pot holes or bad bumps. The Michelin man said it was "pinch damage".
