No. You need to upgrade to iDrive 8.5 to get it.

Plug & Charge Setup (Europe)

To use Plug & Charge (in Europe at least) is has to be activated in your BMW Charging Contract. Its all very simple:

Setting up:
1. Log in to BMW Charging Portal (I prefer to do that on a PC)

2. Choose your charging contract, Under "Services" and "Plug & Charge" Press "Activate" (See screenshot, in Swedish but understandable)
Input your VIN and the BMW Charging portal will automatically generate the PCID (Provisioning Certificate ID) number. Dont mind about that, once activated the contract is automatically downloaded to your car.

3. Next time in the car: Go to Charging Menu, enable the Plug & Charge by simply pressing a button and if applicable choose the contract you want to use. All your charging contracts automatically come up in a table (max 5).

Using Plug & Charge:
4. When stopping at a charger that can use P&C, the car will inform/remind that Plug and Charge is available here. See photo.
(I did have the Ionity Charger as target in the Nav so far, but I guess the reminder uses GPS position)

5. Plug & Go for a coffee (no buttons to press on the Charger)

......
This just started to work in Sweden a couple of weeks ago. Before that, the Charging portal failed to activate Plug & Charge with just the VIN. Have now tried at several Ionity chargers - Works flawless.

(i7, 10/2022 build with iDrive 8.5, currently on 07/2023 software version)
- Would be interesting to know if Plug & Charge also works with iDrive 8 (still on our older iX)?
- And, other Europeans: Inform if you find other Chargers than Ionity where Plug & Charge can be used.

https://bmw-public-charging.com/
Login with your BMW ID (same as BMW Connected Drive)
Go to Contracts and from there you will find Plug&Charge/Activate

No clue how BMW Charging works in the US, guess you get a BMW Charging Card at delivery of car and then login to set up payment details (in the same BMW Charging Portal.

In Europe (at least Sweden, Denmark and Germany), BMW Charging Card works at all DC-chargers I have tried and most AC-chargers. But so far Plug & Charge only at Ionity DC-chargers across Europe.

I see now that its completely different in the US.
https://www.bmwusa.com/charging.html#!#public-charging
But mentions BMW partner Electrify America can use Plug & Charge.

So maybe just a little behind Europe for Plug & Charge, at least been able to show how nice Plug & Charge will work, once they get their act together....

This is how it worked for med but I’m also in Sweden. I was in a hurry so I manually downloaded it to the car, I needed to charge the car

My ix was on iDrive 8.0. And it couldn’t be upgraded because of old hardware. You need 8.5 for plug & charge. Or at least that was my understanding until I read in circle Ks app that circle K in Sweden can plug & charge a BMW i3 which certainly doesn’t have 8.5. ( They can plug & charge an ix as well but not an i7 so their info might be unreliable.) I haven’t tried Circle K plug & charge in my i7 yet but the ionity charging experience is super nice with plug & charge.

So update from the USA. After gettin in my car to leave from work today the notification appeared about having a new charging contract available to download for plug and charge. I checked the notification that appeared which is simply a tile on the charging app for plug and charge that wasn’t there before today.

I saw an available electrify America contract available to download, however it would only allow me to do while parked. I was in park with parking brake set mind you. I powered off the vehicle and the download button was no longer greyed out. Despite pressing the button no less than 100 times in a 20 minute period I was unable to get the vehicle to acknowledge my request.

I powered on the vehicle once more and did a hard rest of iDrive with a long power button press down for audio. After the system rebooted it shows a green check mark next to my electrify America contract and I was able to toggle plug and charge on.

I charged to full this am on way to the office while on a long conference call this week do I will likely not be able to test the functionality until I charge next week, however looks like I’m good to go.

Hoping I get the same functionality in my iX, but guessing since it was one of the first M60 trims produced and has the MGU21 Headunit I’ll be screwed out of this simple software only update that requires no different hardware!

Finally did an EA DCFC yesterday ... happy to report that it is literally plug & charge begins automatically. I did need to click an acknowledgement on the charger screen, however that my not be necessary, I'm just anal and wait to get back in the car until I see the car initiate the charge and kw speed
