Theatre Screen Media Playback

I've got an i7 coming , and trying to understand the media playback capabilities for the theatre screen.

Sadly the built in Amazon Fire is not supported here in Malaysia. But will be given some third party media stick from Xiaomi, this will be controlled through a remote.

Is there a USB port somewhere which will support video playback ... AVI, MKV , MP4 etc? According to the BMW genius here, only audio is supported.... WTF??

Has anyone had any luck playing media through an IOS device and Apple's AV adapter and cables?

Anyone have a good solution for video playback?

Does the car support HD-Audio? DTS-HD, Dolby Atmos etc?

There seems to be very little information in the manual, and also online.

as you don't have the fire stick it's difficult to say what it will do and not do.

this with the USB is correct: the USB in the car are audio media only, WTF indeed - at leat FLAC is supported. about the formats, no idea

the USB from the screen (with the firestick) is pure charging - useless...

what you can do: if your phone supports USB2HDMI - get a cheap adapter (if you watch long times: with USB power in - aliexpress has them) and use HDMI to play videos.
if it's for the kids, maybe some cheap phone with HDMI capability would do the job

that's what i do, no hassle of sticks and stuff, plug and watch.

Thank you, seems like BMW missed a trick here. I wonder if they’ll patch support for video files in in the future.

Let’s see how streaming wirh e-sim performs.

Hope this screen doesn’t turn into an expensive white elephant option. Haha.

Apple’s AV adapter works for content through an IOS device.

I will order a fire stick to try.

Still would have really wished to play media from a thumb drive….

a little off topic:

i just ordered this for USD 20.- for fun, lets see how it works...

reason: i don't like the crippled android versions where some apps are blocked and other unreasonable tweaks. yes, they won't be any updates for the OS, but who cares, just get a new one in 1-2 years!

You can watch YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Youtube TV, HBOmax, Spotify on that big screen via a device named "Google Chromecast with Google TV (4K)"! Im from Vietnam and we got the i7 with theatre screen at the back seat and it is useless as it doesn't have Amazon Fire TV or built-in Youtube so we had to used that device! However, since the G11/G12, BMW has introduced this chromecast which is compatible with BMW via HDMI port! and you must get the power supply for this device via USB port type-C right next to the HDMI port! Good luck

i got it last week: it's android TV on it, so useless for me...
and: quality is shit

i need the full android as i want to VPN, Plex and Teams. i^ll have to see for other sticks.

the normal android boxes are good but they need probably too much power to be fed with the USB-C... i'll have to test further...
