coding help
Hello everyone, trying to code auto high beam to be on by default. I could able to do it on my F02 but can't find way on 2018 g12. also same for fog light as day time running light but really no options available on bimmer code or protocol. anyone here had luck with it?

You could code HBA (high beam assist) on the f01/f02 because the lighting was under the control of the FRM (footwell module),. Your 2018 g12 does not have this module…lighting in the g12 is controlled by the BDC module. So if it is at all possible, you’ll need to look at the module…then see if someone has discovered if it is a possibility.
I haven’t seen anything yet…my f06 has HBA as default…but it has the FRM module like your old f02. But my f15 X5 can’t be coded to HBA as default (I’ve got to physically press the button on the turn indicator stalk)…and it has the BDC module which controls its lighting..like your g12. ![]()

Not sure what you mean on by default with HBA. Do you mean active every time you switch on the ignition, without needing to press the button? Not sure that it is possible or why would anyone want to do that.
Fog lights with DRLs should be doable but it is manual value coding of light characteristics and I'm not sure what needs to happen there. Nor do I recommend it as extra glare is never welcomed by oncoming traffic. |

It’s great if you use HBA anytime you’re driving and night falls and you’re driving on unlit rural roads. When I’m in my (2015) F06 650ix GC…I don’t have to activate HBA when I drive out of the city areas that have street lights into the rural areas with no street lights. The high beams automatically come on (or turn off when oncoming traffic appears). But my 2014 F15 X5 has the BDC module that controls the lights, and I have to manually press the HBA button when I hit those same rural areas with no street lights. I find it convenient if HBA can be coded to be on by default…but it does not set my hair on fire if it can’t. Just a nice convenience since I use it regularly. ![]()

Just curious…is your headlight switch in the AUTO position? If yes, HBA defaulted to ON is basically the same thing.
Auto headlights that come on at dusk and turn off a dawn…HBA defaulted on is the same. The brights don’t come on when you’re driving around in urban areas or any well lit streets/roads/highways. The brights only turn on when they are needed. Which also means less stress on the turn indicator stalk as you manipulate it to turn the brights on/off vs doing it automatically using the KAFAS cams. Again, just another way to look at things. ![]()

Where I live, a lot of unlit areas begin with dual carriageways with long open stretches and different height barriers separating the road. This can create challenges to system where it is unable to detect vehicles due to barriers or road geometry. I also have selective high beam (steered high beam) which might have its own set of difficulties compared to regular HBA (disregarding irrelevant light sources, detecting vehicles, evaluating vehicle dimensions, calculating travel vectors). I do use it at every possibility because It will create an unlit corridor for uncoming and proceeding traffic so I can drive with high beams on even with traffic around me. Unfortunately, it is not perfect and I often find myself toggling it off because it doesn't react fast enough for certain situation. And not reacting fast enough can be really frustrating for oncoming drivers as I also have Laserlight. Where this system really shines are twisty forest roads and driving within constant traffic flow. Interestingingly enough, KAFAS is much better at detecting yellow, incandecent headlights than it is white light of xenon or LED. Last edited by Raimo5; 06-18-2024 at 04:59 PM.. |
