Rip off?

I was quoted $2,000 to remove my 3m vinyl wrap and then quoted $8,000 to install colored ppf from flect. This seems very high, another shop said $800 for removal and then $6,000 for install of ppf.

Whether it be clear of colored, I don't recall ever reading a post on this forum from anyone installing PPF from Flect.

https://www.flect.com

If you want a colored PPF color there is availability from some of the better known name brands like XPEL, 3M, and STEK. I think you should do some additional research with the shops in your area that use their PPF products and get some more quotes. I personally would look for the thickest PPF when doing a colored wrap.

I have a couple of cars where the PPF started to discolor and crack after 11 or 12 years. I have had to pay $150 per hour to get it removed. If you watch the videos on youtube, it would not appear to be satisfying work. My FL-based PPF'r definitely quotes it high because he hates doing it.

I am tempted to buy my own steamer so that I can remove the PPF off of my next car that it needs replaced.

This is ambiguous, are they giving you the Flect product or Xpel’s?

They both offer a color product. 😉

They said it would be 7.4k to remove my wrap, then install the color ppf distributed by XPEL.

Go to Xpel’s website and you will see what they offer. Currently they don’t show too many colors, they only have 2 green shades, moss green and satin battle green (a frozen/ matte look).

https://www.xpel.com/products/color-...rotection-film

I recommend that you go to the shop and ask them to show you the actual product that they are using.

I would not use anything but STEK or XPEL on my car. Good luck with your decision and purchase. Pro tip: Do the whole damn car.

Quotes to remove PPF are high because not only is it tedious and very labor intensive, but there is risk of pulling up paint if the tech isn't careful. This has been discussed in various videos I've watched concerning PPF application and removal.
