Reason #87 why not to use a car wash, at least don't follow a pickup truck

I think that's going to leave a mark...

What do you want to bet the carwash tries to get out of the damage done to the car behind him? I certainly wouldn't be surprised given those "we're not responsible for anything at all" signs they all put up.

Most ceramic coatings aren't self-healing, and even with the ones that are there are limits. If you rip through the coating that hard it's very likely not going to self-heal; the self-healing aspect is more for small rock hits, etc. It's not a force field, and I'd bet dollars to donuts that no ceramic coating would survive this – you're essentially whipping the car at high speed with metal wires.

To my reasoning its the pick up drivers responsibility/cost. Guess it may not seem obvious a coil of wire through car wash rollers would do what it did, but it was not covered and his wire.

BUT we have law in Aus about covering loads on pick ups, trailers etc to protect other road users from loose loads.

On the freeways always avoid any kind of truck; a semi, cement, gravel, or pickup with oversize/extended tires, and you'll eliminate a lot of chips.
