Repair XPELL PPF

I have XPELL PPF film on my front bumper. Today I noticed a small tiny cut in the film that was probably created by a high flying pebble at highway speeds. I suppose the PPF did what it is suppose to do which is protect the underlaying paint. But the imperfection in the PPF film is somewhat noticeable. I know PPF companies like to claim their films have “self-healing” properties but perhaps the impact was quite excessive.

Is there anyway to polish, buff, or smooth out the tiny imperfection to make it less noticeable?

Short answer no. That's one of the weaknesses of PPF. Any damage will require full panel replacement. Self-healing only applies to light surface scratches and etching.

Replace or ride with it. Those are your options. Any "fixing" it is just going to make it more noticeable.

Nope, once it's gone it's gone lol.

Depending on where the damage is located on the bumper your shop may be able to remove a small section of the old PPF and replace it with a new piece that has a really tight seam that may not be noticeable unless you are very close to the car and really looking for it.

The seams will turn yellow/brown over time and become more noticeable...

I’d leave polishing out of it and treat it as a “stabilize + monitor” situation.

What worked for me on small nicks:
- gentle clean + dry
- tiny edge-seal application just to prevent dirt/water creep
- keep an eye on discoloration over a few washes

If it starts spreading or browning at the edge, partial re-wrap is usually the cleanest fix. If it stays stable, most people forget it’s there after a week 😅

Like I said, depending where the damage is located on the bumper, you may not even see the seam unless you are bending down and really looking for it. If the existing PPF is fairly new it may become a non-issue.

What’s nice is you just replace that panel, not all the PPF.

If your installation came with one, I'd also check out the warranty to see if it might cover this for you. Worth a shot.

Well there you go then. I'd still hit up the installer – maybe he'll help out as a goodwill gesture in hopes of repeat business. You don't get the sale if you don't ask, as they say.

I totally agree with this approach; if you don't ask you will never know.

I have a great relationship with the owner of my PPF shop, have sent him new customers over the years and I frequently stop by to look at the cars he is working on. He has done this for me a few times without any charge.
