How nice of BMW not to post part numbers, links, or any other info on how to get this.

I hope this is this legitimate because I'd really like it -- and if so, how does one obtain it?!

Thanks for this. Once again BMW wants a 500% markup on parts lol. It operates exactly as the digital rearview mirror in Toyotas and Lexuses, and they're only a $200 option. BMW is charging ~$1,000 for the part and they're not even the ones installing it!

Well, the kit says is it a (retrofit). If it's truly plug-and-play without extra wiring, I think the 900 USD price point is justified and personally I would buy it 100%. I am curious to know what comes with the package and how does the installation look like.

I think someone with the most recent ISTA+ files could find the installation steps. Mine is couple months old and doesn't show that part number or installation procedure.

It's not. There's a rear camera you have to install on the rear windshield.

Yes, I expect at least there is that cabel, but I am referring to the power cables. That's usually the part I hate. However, the current mirror already has power lines. If it's just plug and play, using the existing power lines, that makes the installation really clean and I'd buy one. But if I still have to also alter the fuse box and borrow power that way, this is just too much work and too many cables to hide and run.

I am not willing to touch any panel in my 7. It is creaks free and I wanna keep it that way. That's why I want to see what comes with the package. In all cases, great job for BMW to offer this at first place.

GOOD UPDATE: I was able to get a copy of the detailed installation instruction, and it is FAIRLY SIMPLY ALMOST PLUG AND PLAY. I will upload copy of the instructions as soon as I get home later today or toorrow.

It is 100% plug and play for cars built after July 2025 (less than 5 min is my guess), and it is half plug and play for cars built before.

For BOTH cases, there is no need for any special power cables or anything. Only the coaxial cable fished beyind trim parts.

For cars built after July 2025, the coaxial cable is already there (I love BMW for a reason), and you just need to mount the camera near the rear 3rd rear brake light (cable is hidden behind the bracket) and front mirror screen (cable is also behind the bracket once u remove the old/current mirror).

The interesting part is that there is no programming needed according to BMW instructions document. Only the Coaxial cable. This tells me that maybe when the mirror itself sits in the same location as the older mirror, and the same power cable for the old mirror will power the new screen-mirror.

Does this mean that this mirror will be available at LCI?

I just received my 2025 i7 eDrive50 with Theatre Pkg and would LOVE to install this. Hope it's easy enough or I can take it locally and have it done for relatively inexpensive..

Any way to allow these instructions to be downloaded as a PDF?

I went to the dealer myself and worked with the parts department, then service and convinced them to print all the info for me even though am not buying it, only to get these papers and upload them here for everyone. I got them as a hard copy only.

I hope that you/others above at least appreciate the effort. I guess anyone can download the images and PDF them, and share them here, if someone is willing to take the time. At least for now they do exist in some form or fashion.

If anyone is going to give this a try, I'd appreciate if you can post here with pictures and report back on the installation process.

I feel that the cables route suggested by the instructions/steps from the BMW document is an overkill. I feel that there should be other ways to hide the cables without having to remove and hide it behind all 3 pillars as well as all door sills. I haven't thought about it, but the A pillar is easy, and from there I think there are several other ways around the seat or so to route the cables.

My vehicle is currently at the dealership, and they’re hunting down a rough idle, but once that task is completed, I’m moving forward with the digital mirror. I’ll post when things are done or as we go.

@pegogetem Please keep us posted with the rough idle solution. I knew you would be the first to get the digital mirror 😂.

That’s sad.. The rough idle is becoming a very common trend. I hope it’s not the same as my last X7 M60 (cylinder heads was the fix; Out of tolerence around the valve walls or some parts. BMW took it back and paid me extra goodwill $s/credit towards any new BMW). I kissed the goodbye for the S engine after that. I know that BMW can fix it though; jsut a matter of luck. Good thing is that as soon as new heads are installed they should be able to tell if it’s fixed or not (ISTA can track the minor/partial misfies or less than ideal combusion, before that starts to cause obvious vibrations).

Did your X7 M60 have the s68 engine? Btw what did you end up getting as a replacement?
