First Rattle / Sound - Not Happy
New problem:
With a mere 2k miles on my car, I am now experiencing my first 'rattle', which is very very very upsetting! I first noticed the problem about a week ago, but it was intermittent and seemed to go away. I attributed it to something related to storing CD's to the car's hard drive because it seemed to emanate from that vicinity and seemed to happen most often when doing same. Unfortunately, yesterday and today, I noticed the noise every time I drove the car – with no CD's in process of being stored! The sound seems as though it is coming from behind the dashboard, but close to the surface, it almost sounds like a CD writing sound or some type of liquid slushing around (yes, I know these two sounds are different, but that's the best I can do to describe it), and it happens when I go over a bump that gives the car some 'bounce' – not necessarily a harsh bump. I'm not sure, but it may have something to do with the HVAC system? It's not entirely an electronic type of sound, but I have a P38a Range Rover and it vaguely reminds me of the faint electronic and/or motor like sound heard when changing the HVAC temperature settings; except this happens when going over bumps - now consistently. Very displeased. Please advise. Last edited by dbs600; 02-24-2011 at 11:04 PM.. |

So, the sound continued today.
To clarify the description, it's a chirping / squeaking / CD seeking-like sound. Wonder if it's the hard drive? Do our cars use platter or solid state drives? Last edited by dbs600; 02-25-2011 at 07:53 PM.. |

I'm sure the car uses a disc based HDD not a SSD.
Are you sure it's not your front struts that you are hearing, maybe your dealership needs to clean them and grease them again ?!?
