Show us the video of him doing the entire vehicle with the same towel.
Anyone can take a dry towel and do the same pass on the hood, then get another dry towel for one side of the roof, then get another dry towel for the other side of the roof, then get another dry towel for the dorr panels, etc.

There are a number of reasons microfiber towels are preferred.
Some blankets, even cotton, use plastic to stitch the edges. That will scratch the paint. Microfiber towels are cheaper when you look at how long they last. I bought 2 from Griots that lasted for 5 years. When they finally needed to be replaced I bought some from Chemical guys. Chemical Guys MIC_781_01. I can dry my car with 1 towel. Finally, you bought a BMW, why cheap put with the towel you use. ![]() |

Used baby blankets? You want to avoid any cloth that was exposed to fabric softener most of it's life. Also cloth chemically treated for fire resistance is not ideal. I would think they're not great at absorbing large amounts of water either.

If you dont sheet the water off your car first there is no towel that can dry the whole thing on its own.

I recently bought a Griot's PFM Terry Weave Drying Towel and used it for the first time this weekend – it's amazing how much water it absorbs. Very highly recommended.

Ceramic coat the exterior and if you can afford to get PPF first then ceramic.
This makes drying you car so much easier. I either air dry then I use a detail spray with 500GSM fluffy microfiber towel from "The Rag Company" purple ones I think no edges The detail spray helps when drying to avoid scratches. The BIG drying towels work really well...look up some videos on Youtube you will see them advertising the drying towels..$30 and your set |

Additionally I prefer not to get the large 24x36 because I find using a couple of smaller ones more handy and drop proof. Use the blower first to get most water off then use the towel lightly to such up the remaining moisture if any. |

I am definitely not disagreeing here, but I have kind of decided it's car-dependent. My Z4 has like 1/2 the surface area of the X3.
You're right about them hitting the ground, I don't drop them but I do find the corners dragging if I'm not paying attention. One thing with 2 towels is one for each hand... I will sometimes want one hand on the hood or trunk while I'm bent over all to hell wiping something near the bottom of the car. That 2nd towel means I won't leave prints or anything if I do so. |

My car is ceramic coated; same as others, use leaf blower first, then
microfiber towel but on the glass first before using it on the paint; that way it has absorbed some water and likely avoids any scratches. |

If my towel touches the ground, or even a tire, I switch it out. I don't want to take any chances.
I figure the cost of multiple towels is cheaper than fixing the paint. ![]() |

After using my leafblower to get as much as the water off, I use a Chem Guys Wooly Mammoth and a variety of Rag Co, 303 (small orange and black) towels. I tend to use different colors for different surfaces if I'm using different cleaning/drying agents on them.
I also wash them separately based on what they've got on them with the Rag Co. microfiber soap and multiple cold water rinse cycles. |

1. Blow dry
2. For detail I personally use "Rain-X Waterless Car Wash and Rain Repellent" to get rid of remaining waterspots while adding some hydrophobic effect on the surface. 3. Wipe with a clean microfiber towel, personal I use "Kirkland Signature Ultra Plush Microfiber Towel" from Costco. I probably reuse one towel for 3 - 4 times before they start to shed fibers. Then I use it to give the rims/wheels a good detail before I trash it. Repeat the process if it is dirty again. With hydrophobic effect from #2, it makes #1 process a lot easier. Done that for a long time. No streak, swirls, scratches. |
