MPE with Supreme Power Stainless Tips
Recently there have been posts with SupremePowers tips for Stock Exhaust systems that caught my eye.
Though I've been perfectly happy with the raw exit pipes on the MPE I wanted to dress up the rear end of the M4 so A little CF spoiler... New CF splitter...black license plate... all looking spiffy... except the raw pipes were a bit out of place. After looking into the MPE tips and the stupid price I knew which tips I wanted. I contacted Justin supremepower and ordered a set of the stainless (90mm). Justin and I discussed the differences in the pipe inner diameters between the MPE and stock... MPE being smaller. I received the tips in about a week. These tips are very nice quality both in construction and finish. They match the sophisticated air of the M without being boy racer. The larger 90mm exit looks huge and gives the impression that something is going on there. Fitting: The SP tips are very loose on the MPE - I received a 70mm ID set and the MPE exit pipe is 67mm. Justin mentioned that they had some of the first run units that were 69mm but somehow I ended up with the newer 70mm. Not a huge deal and Justin has been very solid on communication and troubleshooting. I like tips enough to keep them so I set about a solution to fit them. Solutions: The first thought is a 69mm stainless shim pipe with 67mm ID. My concern here is it might have to be hammered on and then it's a drag if you have to change to something else. So then you think split pipe - easy to slip on and off but either pipe solution does not provide much fine tuning. Third idea wins... I've used several wraps of 3M High Temperature Flue Tape. It's rated to 600 degrees. Now this tape isn't rated for moisture but I'm simply using it for space filler to center the SP tip on the MPE exit pipe. I used about 6 wraps per pipe to fill the gap and then tighten the tips set screw with loctite red. So far so good. I've run them for a few days and even in light rain. They are solid. My concerns are there may be some compression of the tape over time. If so I will fall back to the split pipe shim. I'll add a video link shortly detailing how I applied the tape and the general install process. If you have an MPE system this is a nice alternate to $1000 ///M tips. You may be confused or typo'd, let me clear it up... The stock system has exit pipes that are ~ 69mm OD The MPE system has Exit Pipes that are ~ 67mm OD The Supreme Power tips are ~70+mm ID, so about 3.5mm larger than the MPE exit pipe. And before an entire thread starts about the stock system is bigger.... BMW builds up the OD on the stocker exit pipe so they can use universal tips across multiple models of vehicles. The MPE has no such extra material. |

Excuse the stupid question as I am sure it's been answered before but...
Do you have to get tips to put on the end of the Mpe exhaust. It's an extra expense on an already significant base cost. |

IMHO, the best part of MPE is aesthetically pleasing carbon tips albeit they're quite pricey. |

My MPE did not come with the bolt on Ti tips standard. AFAIK the Ti and CF tips are optional accessories with Ti being a bit less expensive. The raw tips may be Ti but I think they system looks a bit naked without the finishing tips. The pricing is a bit absurd but it is what it is.
