18” wheels for the track

A couple of things happened which delayed my moving forward with a wheel purchase, and now I am thankful I have had this extra time to think. Everything happens for a reason

First, the HRE wheels I fell in love with (this is them: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1379403) were only available in 20s for the E9x gen, and that was just a little too much for my taste. Not long after that, I thought I was going to have to shell out an unplanned $1k for a clutch rebuild in the very near future, so I put my plans to buy a second set of wheels on hold. Trying to be practical, you know?… Over the course of that time, I continued to talk with my friends about my desire for more wheels, and somewhere along the line a transformation occurred. I finally saw the sheer sensibility in picking out 18” squared wheels for my track setup. So, I have reversed my plans for what I want in my 2nd set of wheels. I have decided to keep my staggered 19” anthracite Arc 8s for my street rims, as I think they actually look pretty dope and I am happy enough with them for now, and I will instead look for 18” track specific wheels as my second set. Back to the fun part, lol. Wheel shopping! (yes, I have a problem)

Taking any suggestions for good/favorite track wheels, maybe consider it an unofficial poll

I would prefer to stay under $1500 if possible. Also, it took for-f***ing-ever to decide on the width of my wheels when I bought them last time, so my only other question would be - since I’m going with a squared setup, is there a preferred width for an E90 that will be using these wheels specifically on the track?

Thank you.

I have been super happy with my Arc 8s, they are great wheels. Now that I'm looking for some 18s to have on hand, they will definitely be in the running.

Well, dang. Lol... I suppose a second set of Arc 8s might end up on the agenda. Since that seems to be the only recommendation outside of ones I received in my previous post about powder coating my wheels, I guess they deserve my serious consideration. The only other wheels I am looking at right now are the Titan7s. I thought perhaps there would be more suggestions.

Thanks!

Same. My 2nd set for events is a set of 10x18 ARC8s, and I use 275/35-18 all around.

Awesome, this is everything I need to know. Very useful, thank you! You're in Raleigh? Do you do events with the Tarheel CCA? I went to VIR with them in Oct, great group of people.

I used to 9-10 years back. THSCC is also a great club to track with.

I have ec7s but heavier. Then got the ffd evo2 and don't really need a 4th set.

I actually like the way the EC7s look more than the ARC8s, I need to do some research on how much heavier they actually are. The evo2s look pretty sweet, too bad I missed the boat on those. I suppose I could maybe find a used set

It is likely that at some point I will have 3 sets of wheels at one time, and I was thinking that was maybe a little out of control... but maybe it is not? Lol. I do want to build some sort of wheel rack or something in my garage soon though, that way I can free up more precious usable space.

You can go with a 18X10.5 ET22 wheel with the same tire sizes if that fits other models better. That size in the front will require small spacers in the front and alittle negative camber.

Haha, you remind me of one of my buddies. His spare room is also filled with tires. You guys are alright I need to look at the wheel racks that Tire Rack offers, sounds a lot easier than designing and building one myself.

I have been trying to stay away from having to use spacers, but only because I have heard it can be kind of a PITA to deal with. I am still learning all the ins and outs of messing with different wheel sizes, I have a long way to go. It is pretty fascinating to me though. It looks like another long ass phone call with the guys at Apex might be in my near future... I do try to have an idea of what I want before giving them a call though, so all of this helps tremendously.

Im running an 18X10 ET25 square with 275/35-18's with 15mm spacers in the rear and it's perfect. Perfect look and function.
